Which transmission, and what speed? My impression is that at over 60 mph the 6-speed auto is going to have an advantage.

I notice my MPG is getting better with age. Over 1200 miles now. First refill was around 36.5 MPG. Last refill was around 38.4 MPG. Same weather conditions and road. I'm using BP at the moment. Exxon and Shell are my other usual choices. Sunoco when I'm desperate. I can't wait to see what the warmer weather brings.

Since I don't have a trip computer, I had to calculate these old school by hand.

My best reading before fill-up was my last one

43.3

Miles to empty said 482, I am slowly creeping towards the 500 threshold.

That's good. I just learned how to get mileage out of my Fiesta on the hiway.
My last tank was 434 miles and took 9.19 gallons. Was 42.97 mpg

I don't use the bloody trip computer ave tank to tank. I leave it and try to get the average since new higher as time goes on. It has largely topped out at 32.5 with a high of 33.0. This has never been reset. I want it to be a lifetime average as I've done with previous cars. I always do the math on each tank so this isn't a feature I'd use between fill ups anyway.

The tank to tank average I'm going to believe is the amount it took into the miles I went, no estimates, no believing a trip computer. The facts. My last tank coming back from Tucson (to Phoenix) friday was 47.0. I did the math in my head when the fuel nozzle clicked off and I didn't believe it. So I tried to get more in the tank and sure enough it ended up on the ground. I'd never cleared 40mpg before so when it was high 40's I figured something was wrong. It's a pretty level run and was (I don't recall the 10ths....)147 miles (took 3.1 gal) with the cruise set at 77mph and mine is a 5 speed. I may have had a tailwind but whatever......it set a new record for my car which just went over 12K total miles on this run. Suffice it to say, I'm pretty pleased with this car. :-)

I am heading west to Boaz Alabama next weekend and should average 50-60MPH. I hope to get 40+ MPG. Will report.

Completed a round trip of 280 miles on the PA & NJ Turnpikes. Speeds easily hit 80 MPH to keep up with traffic in the MIDDLE lane. Filled up at the end of the trip and MPG was just over 40.
