Here in Ca I run 87 in the car which is what ford recommends. Is there any upside to running a tank of 91 octane other than it sucking cash from my wallet faster?

Nope. The reason there are different octanes is because of the different compression ratios in engines. An engine with a higher compression ratio needs higher octane gas to help prevent pre-detonation before the piston reaches it's TDC (top dead center) in the cylinder. Octane rating has nothing to do with power as some people believe. Some people swear they get better mileage with premium. Sure maybe they do because it is a higher quality, has more detergent or has less Ethanol at that particular station. I've never noticed any better mileage when I've tried using a higher octane in my other cars.

our Fiesta 1.6L engine has a 11.0 to 1 compression ratio. Fiesta Movement [EU] Fiestas required premium fuel.
you may benefit from premium. maybe not better fuel economy but more power if it advances the timing to make use of more octane.
