Default How To: Install LED License Plate Lights

You will need:
Two 5LED T10 bulbs. I got mine here. Anything brighter is too bright.
A flat-head screw driver.
10 Minutes.

Process is the same on the sedan as the hatch. Thanks SportsComedian!

Look for the light housings above the plate.

Slide the screwdriver into the small opening on the side and push back.

Once you get it slightly out you should be able to pull it with your hand the rest of the way.

Now start to twist the round plastic cap attached to the plastic box till you can remove the box. I can't remember if it's clockwise or counter clockwise but you'll know if your turning it the right way.

The easiest way to get the bulb out is to use a rubber grip for opening cans and jars. I didn't want to shatter the glass with my fingers.

Now take your new LED and push it into the socket. NOW THIS PART IS SUPER IMPORTANT! Turn your lights on and make sure the LED works before putting it back together. If the LED is in backwards or isn't seated all the way it won't light up. So make sure they work, then turn the lights back off and put it all back together.

And here's the final result!

Hope this helps out!

Thanks for the write up and pictures. Is the light brighter or the same?

It's a bit brighter, the main thing is it looks so much whiter with the LEDs. You can always do a six or eight LED bulb if you want something super bright.

It's a very easy process and it does brighten up the license plate so cops can see it better Just be careful when removing the OEM bulbs.

Well you could always just use two 2LED bulbs instead, or just take them out when you go street racing .

Glad to hear it! The interior map and dome lights use the same bulb, switching those with LEDs makes a huge difference too.

Just did this today and have to wait for nightfall to see the results.

Very easy to do. Took all of 10 minutes.

I’m thinking about 'modifying' the interior of the black plastic housing with some aluminum foil to reflect some more of the light out, but that is for another day.
