I know what you mean about the wagony look on the Focus.

I picked the Fiesta because it's sporty, fuel efficient and fun (I'm currently going through a mid life crisis).

Husband was considering upgrading his 04 Olds Alero for a 2012 Focus but with our order problems he's now reconsidering. He wanted something a bit bigger to carry all of the computer stuff he sometimes has to take.

The current Fiesta is fantastic for me but is not 100% perfect.

If it were perfect it would be a 3 door S model. If not, a 5 door S model.

I really, really do not want an SE. And I don't want the S sedan.

I'm going to wait a year or two to make my decision. If in 2013 or 2014 there is no base model Focus and there is still no S Fiesta hatch, I'll take a SE Hatch. Otherwise I'll take a base Focus.

I know manufacturers are trying to make money but don't automatically assume I want all that crap in there. As long as their is a/c, a key fob, a light interior option (gray/tan), and a manual transmission that's all I need.

It really depends on the budget. Ideally I'd love to get a new Focus Titanium sedan. My current Focus allows me to carry four adults in adequate comfort (useful in those awkward work lunches where people need a lift). The Fiesta would be a bit too small.

However, if the new Focus Titanium is going to be ridiculously expensive, I'll consider the Fiesta SES Hatchback.

At first I was a bit underwhelmed by the Mk3 Focus; I expected something as instantly endearing as the Fiesta. But I think the reason why I loved the Fiesta's styling the second it came out in 2008 was because it had already been preceded by the Verve concepts. I knew what to expect, I had gotten used to the design before it was even finalized! Of course it helped that the previous Fiesta was so dowdy; in this case the Focus Mk3 isn't as big a leap forward over its predecessor as the current Fiesta is just because the Focus Mk2 wasn't as blah-looking.

The new Focus also has some challenging design elements; the Z-slash, front fangs and the crazy rear taillamps (on the hatch) mainly. So it took me a while to get used to, but now, after looking at the new Focus for 6+ months, I like the design about as much as the Fiesta with one exception - I wish the front end, headlamps in particular, more closely resembled the Iosis Max concept. The headlamps of the Max (I mean the basic shape, not the crazy LED detailing of course) are what I expected and would have preferred Ford to use instead of the rather unimaginative headlamp shape the Focus III actually got. Still, in spite of that, it's a good-looking car.

Anyway, to the OP: the main benefits of the Focus III are the increased room and plushness; if you think the Fiesta is too small/too basic and can stretch to the new Focus price-wise then I think that's the car for you. Otherwise, handling should be similarly brilliant with either car (the Fiesta being more agile, the Focus more stable, though we're talking by slight amounts), and with the Focus perhaps gaining an edge on performance considering it has 30 extra hp.

Definitely getting the new Mk3 Focus. Everytime I see pics or videos on youtube of the Mk2 Focus I always drool. If I don't get the Mk3 Focus I will definitely regret it. I don't want that feeling of regret. I really love the look of both the hatchback and sedan but I'm going with the hatchback. But both look really awesome! Ford did an exceptional job inside and out. I really like the look of the Fiesta but it is just too small for me. I plan on getting a Focus SE hatchback with Powershift. Don't need Sync or any of that type stuff.

This makes me really pleased....

The efficiency of the US worker and plants is some of the best in the world that often times will erase any cost savings that are claimed by producing in LESS productive countries....like Mexico.

Most likely it's going to be a Focus 5-door for me, although not for several more years. The Fiesta is probably too small for me and my family. I also like the Focus better from a styling perspective, inside and out (especially inside, at least in Titanium trim). It will likely come down to what choices I have between the two when it comes time to replace my 2005 Mazda3 3 or 4 years from now. I plan to replace our Odyssey first, in a year or two, hopefully with something from Ford.

We're all waiting for the Focus, we just don't know we are.

When will the Focus get here? No, not the scheduled date, but when will it actually get here? When will my Fiesta get here? Or your Fiesta?

Dan
