Not me. The 2012 Focus is way to big.

Dan
Uh, nope. I needed a strictly commuter car. 100 miles a day (95) commute calls for a specialty car to deal with it. I have a 1st gen SVTF and love it, but it's not ideal (anymore) for that, and driving a V8 daily is not only irresponsible but is painful as those miles build on my beloved LS. The Focus would be a great car but the Fiesta is more tailored to my needs.

Nearly there, the Fiesta is at the dealer as of this writing and simply needs the body kit to get here.....

I'm thinking the Focus might be a future replacement for a larger car that we have ('05 Acura TL) in several years. It will have all the features and probably several more. The question will be sedan or hatch. I lean toward the hatch.

I too think that the MKIII Focus is too big for my needs. I also don't need the extra luxury or space.

If the new Focus was the same size as the 2003 and earlier Focus, it would be a different story. Actually, I wish the Fiesta was the size of the Escort back in the early 90s with the Focus being the size of the Fiesta.

A very accurate and insightful posting!

I too am so annoyed by manufacturers insisting on blimping up every model from generation to generation.....it increases cost, adds weight, reduces mpg, compromises handling most times, and also makes a vehicle that speeds up the wear on wear items like brakes, tires, ect.....

Note to ALL car mfrs....stop it!

1991 Ford Escort: Length 170.9in, wheelbase 98.4in, width 66.7in
2011 Ford Fiesta: Length 173.8in, wheelbase 98in, width 66.8in

Consider your wish granted

The Focus III is a bit bigger than the outgoing car (which itself was very close in size to the 2000) due in large part to avoid overlap with the Fiesta. And they're still pretty close in size anyway.

Wow, then the Fiesta is much smaller than it looks in the pictures online. This is great news as I loved my 1995 Escort! It had plenty of room for 4 adults and was great on gas, it gave me problems when mileage went over 150,000 miles though.

The Focus will be be a bigger car and that will result in a higher price but you also get more car and features for the money. I realize that additional features don't matter to you but they do to a lot of other people.
The fuel mileage on the next Focus will actually be about the same as the Fiesta with a bigger motor because of direct injection. This also means that the perfomance of the car will be as good or better even with the larger car and added weight.
The handling and brakes will be designed to match the car so there will not be any sacrificing of that either.
On a final note the next Focus will be as close to the EU version which is what you have been hailing for since you came on this board and now just when they are doing what you have been saying you end you post with " Note to ALL car mfrs....stop it! ". Pick a side man pick a side.

LMT I'm very happy that the EU MKIII Focus is on its way...I'd be happy to see ALL car makers start to rethink the constant enlarging of ALL models with each generations...At least the MKIII isn't too much of a lard ass compared to the MKII.

I know that many Europeans have comments on another car in this catagory that was having potential buyers saying that the new model was NOT in line with the characteristics of previous models as this car was too big, too complex, and too expensive.

It was great when Ford announced that this Fiesta was about the same weight as the previous generation, which tends to be a rare feat these days.
