Default 1.6-Liter Ecoboost Debut

Ford has announced the 1.6-Liter Ecoboost will debut in the 2012 Ford C-Max, looks like late next year.

Any bets on left overs getting into the Fiesta?

168hp and 173 ft-lb of torque? That'd definitely propel the Fiesta into the hot hatch territory. Enthusiasts would flock to it.

reading the c-max tech specs, this got my attention
168 hp @ 5,700 rpm on regular fuel
180 hp @ 5,700 rpm on premium fuel
173 lb.-ft. @ 1,500-4,500 rpm

Haha nice! So who has some extra cash in here to do an engine swap?

I like those second numbers running on premium fuel.

Would this technology be available and adaptable to the current 1.6L engine in our Fiestas??

To an extent, I'd think so, but with the EcoBoost setup utilizing gasoline direct-injection, I'd imagine you'd need a different cylinder head for the engine currently offered in the Fiesta.

On another note, I'd like to see this migrate to the Ranger. The torque on this little beastie is just shy of the 190 lb-ft of torque produced by the old 3.0L V-6 under the hood of the Rangers

Erm...there are no plans for a North American Ranger. Production of the current model will stop in 2011.

That's what they said in 2009 for the 2010 model year

IF Ford follows through with that plan then I suppose my next truck would end up being an EcoBoost F-150 rather than a Ranger with a 4.0L.
