I suppose it's a good thing that safercar.gov doesn't even list the 2011 Fiesta as an option when looking up by vehicle?

I wonder how that defect was discovered since the Explorer just hit the lots? Was someone already in an accident and the back seat failed?

I'm taking it as a good sign that no Fiesta recalls have popped up given the number of complaints about the auto transmission that have been posted.

Sometimes it's not even an accident. It can be as simple as follow-up testing by the manufacturer, or maybe someone just flipping the back seat, that finds these problems.

Ever since Toyota's recall mess, a lot of automakers (domestic and foreign) are getting very trigger-happy on recalls to mitigate lawsuits or even public perception.

Which category?

The 2011 Explorer released in North America is an entirely new vehicle. It is different in both platform and design than any model year 2010 and before.
