Toyota Recalls Millions of Vehicles as Mats May Jam Pedals - Bloomberg
This really can't be good for them. Includes a 2011 model year from their Lexus brand; yicks! Helps everyone else I guess; I don't see them keeping that top spot as US auto retailer this year.

At least they identified a physical problem that can be fixed. Can you imagine the nightmare if this was a computer glitch that could happen at anytime and they didn't have a solution???
I wonder how many lawyers are lining up to get rich on this one.

In case you missed it, Ford just recalled some 2005 and 2006 F-150s for air bag issues.

Not a million or more ... and Ford has had far less recalls than Toyota over the last 4-5 years.
I still say: It ain't Ford! and <snicker>

I think this recall was pushed by the US Gov to end an investigation. Basically they said recall these cars and we will end the investigation.

Ford also currently has a massive recall on Windstar minivans for rear axle issues. The difference is that Toyota denies there's a problem, tries to hide it, slaps a band-aid on it and tries to deny it some more. Ford on the other hand identifies the problem and issues a recall and fixes the problem. There's no fun in putting Ford in the news because they're taking care of it, there's no scandal to report. On the Windstar recall Ford has been paying for loaner cars and even offering to buy back vehicles for people that didn't want to wait for the repair parts or simply didn't want the vehicle any longer.

Moving forward! The relentless pursuit of perfection!
It's the smugness...all cars have problems, and no manufacturer is immune to recalls. These are machines, after all. However, in the case of Toyota, they've built their reputation on the "Superior" reliability of their cars, and for them to have these many recalls is particularly destructive to them....why else would anyone suffer a Toyota if they're not "Reliable"? Add to that the cultural inability to acknowledge failure, and you have a ready made disaster. Oh what a feeling!
