Default Who is the biggest person...

I didn't pay much attention to how I fit in the car when I took
my test drive, but now I'm worried I won't be comfortable.

I'm 6'3...and about 300lbs. My wife (thankfully) is much
smaller -around 5'7 - and we have a one-month old
baby. I bought the car mainly for her, though I will be driving
it sometimes and jazzing it up a little.

I'm wondering if we will be able to all 3 go out in it with a rear
facing baby seat?

I REALLY should pay attention to these things more - but I
saw the IIHS top pick/7 airbags/5yr roadside and kinda jumped
at the Fiesta instead of the Focus, which lacks the split fold rear
seat in most sedans.

Just looking for thoughts...

Matt,

I strongly suggest you look at the Focus. The Fiesta is not a family car. You won't be happy after a few months. Besides the Fiesta is a small, sporty economy car meant for sporty wanna be people. It's a blast to drive for one or two people but don't torment a third person or your wife with struggling to use it as a family car.

Now to address your size and weight vs you wife. WOW!!! Just kidding!

PS...Be sure to get a four door weather it be a hatch or sedan!

Stay out of the back seat

If you didn't notice anything bad when you tested it, it will fit fine. Actually the U.S. seats are wider than Europe's. They will fit you better than me. (too wide for me)

If I remember the baby seats don't take up much space and don't need any leg room. My bady is 15 years old now.

Well if your wife is in the passenger seat, she will be able to move it forward some and still have plenty of legroom. Then you can put the baby seat behind the passenger seat where you would want it anyways. More legroom in the passenger seat because no gas or brake pedal for one.

I'd not buy a Fiesta if I was going to be carting around a kid (especially over the age of 5). Sadly, they just require too much space and peripherals. An infant is probably fine, but if you plan to keep the car beyond 5 years, you may as well look more at something with more room.

It pleases me that you're considering the safety of your car though. More people should consider this aspect when car shopping, especially if they'll be moving kiddies around.

Whatever you buy, best wishes and congratulations on the new little family member!

Since your a big boy, and your wife is also a tall gall, PLUS the 1 month old, which needs a rear facing car seat with carrier..... your time is limited for all 3 of you guys to fit in the Fiesta.

you CAN all jam into the Fiesta, but it will be tough once your kid is in a forward facing seat. Those seats are so Big, and you will 100% need to stick it in the center.

Enjoy it now, because after month 6, you will not be able to all fit in the car. I disagree with Audrey tho, Once your Kid is out of the seats, the car will be great. Under 5 years old, its a tough time...

But at 6'3"... not gunna happen

Im 25 yrs old, 6'2" and I am about 275lbs. I work at a gym so I'm pretty lean - not too fat, just heavy. I have the seat lowered to the max, all the way back, but since I don't have a huge belly, my seat isn't reclined as much as you might think. Here is a pick of me for reference (about a month ago) and another pic of my back seat in reference to where I like my front seat.
me and seat position:

my girlfriend is 5'7" and about 130 lbs and she is comfortable moving forward if we are driving with a friend. but i would agree with most everyone so far - its going to suck to have a child in the back.

Can we see a picture of your girl friend so we can decide if you're right for her? Oh wait, we're talking about the car. Sorry.

Are you guys serious?

We are a family of 3 and have no issues at all.

Our daughter is 8 and is just over 4' tall, my wife is a bit shorter than yours at 5'4" and I am 6'.

Currently her 15 yo son is in town and we have taken short trips with the 4 of us. No problems.

I would suggest packing everyone up and taking a real test drive or see if the dealership will let you take the Fiesta home for a night.

Granted this is not our main transport but I get the impression its not your main transport either...if it is then it is possible you could need more room, but not for 5 years at least.

The Focus sedan has to be equipped with a Trend package or be an SEL or Titanium to have split-fold rear seats, which includes the seat base. The Focus hatch comes with split-fold as standard.

Maybe it's the angle of that interior shot, but both seats look like they are reclined a lot.
