Thumbs down

Another silly, unpractical car that Americans will buy at first because it is new and gimmicky, then sales will decline. Looks like a Smart car that someone dropped a grand piano on and squashed it some. They are actually kind of expensive for waht they are too.

I predict ..... FAIL.

Exactly. The 2 door Yaris hatchback is a pretty small car itself, cost about the same or not much more than the IQ and Smart. Has more usable cargo space, more hp, better gas mileage than both, and a usable rear seat (for short trips anyways). Plus you won't fell like a TOTAL tard driving one. I like how they describe the "clever design" of the dashbaord on the passenger side being curved inwards to allow more knee room for the passenger. So in a frontal accident, what? The top of the dashboard ends up in the passengers lap? Lol.

Oh Ralph Nader, where art thou?

Nader is still whining about the Corvair, which was a terrific car. Ralph was and still is a moron.

The IQ is butt ugly.

Yeah, I agree. Why isn't Nader or someone of his ilk showing how dangerous a micro car like the IQ or Smart is going to be in an accident? That whole Corvair thing was overblown. Independent tests were conducted after Chevy stopped making them and they were found to be no more unsafe than any other car of the period. Besides Chevy re-worked and improved the suspension on the second generation. And at the time, Porsche was using the same kind of suspension layout on some of thier cars. What was probably more dangerous at the time were American vans. They had the engine mounted like between the front seats so in a frntal impact there was like nothing up front in an accident. Plus they were notoriously front heavy. Toyota's minivan (a cargo van they just threw rear seats in and upholstry) of the 80's had the same size layout. In hard braking tests, the rear wheels actually lifted off the ground slightly.

They still sell motorcycles... A loose dog can kill me on mine...

Microcars aren't as safe as your average SUV, on the highway. But in their element,(city driving) they are as safe as anything else. Shrug.
