Default US petrol prices

So I've been reading about petrol prices in the US and how people seem to be up in arms about it.

In fact in my paper this morning there was a bit of a pisstake about it. Now I take everything I read in this paper with a grain of salt (a large one) but it said your petrol prices are equivalent to about 92 australian cents a liter?

Today I paid a dollar sixty for a liter. Regular unleaded over here is regularly more expensive than a dollar thirty.

You guys have it good!

I remember hearing a while back euro gas prices were around 7 US dollars. So ya we kinda do and it shows in what sells here. The popularity or lack there of, of diesel's. That being said people have adjusted to and some businesses depend on those prices for their bottom line. Sustainability does require we make some changes, but I'm trying to say it's not just people complaining for no good reason.

US typically has cheaper gasoline prices.

Where I am, it's currently about $1.19 CDN/L. Sure beats the $1.40/L I saw a few months ago.

Default Low gas prices mean we don't design our own cars.

<rant>The reason we have to import our small car designs (e.g., Fiesta, Focus, Sonic) is that for years we had very cheep gas prices. The reason diesel is expensive here is that truckers get a discount (or did the last time I checked) compared to passenger cars. If we had gas prices at world market rates we would not have to dog so many SUVs driven around with one person going to the store. </rant>

It was $2.80/gal last time I filled up. With the mileage this car gets, I don't complain about prices.

Cheapest as always (in Canada), .97 cents a liter in Edmonton. I don't think I'll be trading in for that suburban 4x4 though...

The biggest problem we have here is not the fact that gasoline is $3.11 ( this morning’s price here) but the fact that the prices increased so much in such a short period of time. It went from less than $2.00 US to over $5.00 US in a matter of a couple years. "Big Oil" is complaining about how much it is costing them for oil exploration and want tax breaks and subsidies but are posting record profits.

Blame your government for the high prices. We don't have the high taxes (yet) that the most of the world does.
