We picked up our SFE sedan today. I am resurrecting this thread to address some questions by various members.
Contrary to what has been printed, the spare wheel on the SFE sedan (at least ours) is STEEL: ![]() The partial grill blocks are part of the grill: ![]() The rear wheel fairings are black plastic: ![]() When I get a chance I will put the car up on ramps to see what form the "partial belly panning" takes. My biggest aerodynamic gripe comes thanks to Wisconsins inane requirement to display a front license plate. I get to carry a but-ugly slab of aluminum and plastic on the front of an otherwise sleek-looking front end:

Custom European License Plates ? German License Plates I had this previously on my Malibu. The thinner plate hides the rivet holes, and is slim enough to fit in the grille without protruding up into the painted area. Alright, I have a SFE Tuxedo black hatchback. All the fun stuff in the SFE package except, I have steel wheels with hub caps.
I regularly get 42-45 MPG's with 75% highway 25% city driving. I laugh when I see a Prius because I spent $17,000.... |

When I was pricing the SFE package I was shown two different prices. One quite a bit lower than the other. The more expensive was marked as "limited availability, check dealer for availability". I think this means it was the original version, but Ford has replaced it with a less expensive version, probably the original wasn't selling (too expensive) so they dropped the bits that weren't really needed for the milage.
BTW: we have a 2009 Prius (the Fiesta is replacing a 16 year old Civic) and if the Prius doesn't get > 44 MPG I accuse the wife (its her car) of having a lead foot. It is a different vehicle entirely. Closer to the Fusion in interior space. Cross country I got 50 mpg with the Prius, on flats running 5 - 10 miles over the speed limit (so I wouldn't get run over). I'll be interested to see what the Fiesta will do. Your reports are encouraging. My only complaint is avoiding the Sync is a pain. I can get a GPS with life time maps and traffic for 1/3 the price of the Sync. Had to special order as a result. There are 2 SFE's HB in Calif right now and one has Moon Roof. Ah, headroom is fine but I don't want to loose 1.5" of it. BTW[2] contrary to reports, the back seat has more room and is easier to enter exit than the Mazda 2. Go figure. |
