I can understand your thinking but you would be suprised at the munber of modules that are involved these days to do the simplest operation now.
The audio system system in the Fiesta has three modules and they are the FCIM which is the buttons and stands for the Front Control Interface Module, the ACM which is the Audio Control Module and is the actual module that takes the buttons input and controls the power and sound to the speakers and the APIM which is the Audio Protocal Interface Module and is what takes the inputs for the SYNC system such as the USB and the Bluetooth inputs and feeds them to the ACM. The APIM is also the module that the customer updates with a USB drive if any are available on SYNCMYRIDE.com using the CIP which is the Customer Interface Protocal. If there is a dealer installed update or upgrade then they do this using the VIP which stand for the Vehicle Interface Protocal. Both the CIP and the VIP aren't modules but just communication protocals that the APIM uses to accept and store the module commands and features.
