Thumbs down 2011 Ford Quality Pounded - JD Powers

Ford, the only U.S. automaker to avoid bankruptcy and a government bailout, saw its namesake brand slide to 23rd -- its lowest spot in a decade -- after leading all mass-market brands last year in 5th place, its highest ranking ever.

Lincoln moved from 8th to 17th as the MKX mix heavily influenced the brand’s overall score.

The J.D. Power study says that many automakers, including Ford, experienced issues with newly launched vehicles, new connectivity technology such as our SYNC and MyFord Touch innovations, and new powertrain technologies such as our fuel-saving transmissions. These issues drove lower ratings for our brands and some of our key vehicles.

Ford identified early on that the issue is two-fold on My Ford/Sync: education and functionality. First, we are improving our instructional and “how-to” materials so customers are able to more easily understand and ask questions about how to use the system. Second, we are updating the system software to enhance functionality – much like software updates for home computers, smartphones and apps.

Ford identified two issues early on: education and functionality of our PowerShift transmission.
• First, we are improving customer communication regarding our new-technology PowerShift transmission so customers are familiar with the different sounds and sensations that are part of this new system.
• Second, some issues that customers identified were software related, and we have made updates to improve the shift timing, especially on deceleration and feel.

There's a fatal flaw...so your typical jackass cannot use Sync or understand a manual automatic and it makes the mfr. bad?

in the typical jackass's defense the sync system is not intuitive by any stretch of the imagination. it is extremely picky about command prompts, and does a poor job of voice recognition.

Yes that is true but I have better things to do than sit in a dealership all day because some computer bimbo doesn't speak good english.

The salesman asked me three times about setting up a Sync training appointment.

Even had me sign a paper when I declined it the first time he asked.

This is the first production run of these transmissions, so it's no surprise that they are imperfect. In house testing cannot account for all degrees of customer scrutiny.

My salesman offered to help me pair my phone and get acquainted with Sync before leaving the dealership. I declined; I know how to RTFM.

Why Ford ever decided to partner with Microsoft for SYNC is beyond me. Of course the interface is non-intuitive and picky, it's what Microsoft is known for. They should of just developed something in-house or partner with any of the other tech companies.
