Default Interesting delay wiper feature

It was raining this morning on my way to work and I had my front wipers on the fastest delay setting that you can select. I noticed when I stopped at a light the delay slowed down and when I started going again the delay sped up. When I was stopped the wipers made a pass every 5 seconds. When I was driving they made a pass every 2 or 3 seconds.

There's an amazing amount of engineering in these cars!

And they are probably still paying for that intermittent wiper engineering, if you get my drift.

and if you pay attention to the rear wiper on the hatch - it goes one speed while the front wipers are on the 1st and 2nd settings, but if you kick up the front wipers to their highest (3rd notch), the rear wiper will go continuously without any delay in movement.

My VW does that too. Love the feature.

These wiper features are nifty. But I fail to understand why Ford went through so much trouble to provide these "undocumented" features on wiper but can't provide a vol. control for radio on the steering column. Or not provide over all seat and back heaters. I hate that blow torch effect up my orifice!

Cool feature - but this type of thing is what
JD Power responders (average consumers - not
enthusiasts) will determine to be "confusing" or
"difficult to understand". Thus - low scores for Ford (and VW).

Did your salesperson mention this feature to you?
Likely not. Luckily for Ford, you have the intelligence
enough to know your wipers aren't "broken" - and will fill
out your survey accordingly.

That would be the MyFordTouch on some other models. Still the idea of changing (for commonly-used-while-driving controls like HVAC and radio presets) from buttons that you can feel for and know when you are pressing by touch without taking your eyes off the road to a touch screen or pimple buttons that don't press down or click (saw these in the Chevrolet Volt) seems like a step backward.

Probably most people won't even notice the wiper speed changing by itself.

On the topic of undocumented features the VW also puts the AC into recirc automatically when in reverse so you don't suck up your own fumes. I'll have to watch to see if the Fiesta does that too.
