reading another thread prompted me to wonder about starting or rather restarting the fiesta in particular one with a power shift and push to start system.
say you managed to stall the car....I assume it might be possible, I have done this in other automatics on a rare occasion and of course in manuals too. Not sure but I assume the power shift is more like an automatic since there is no human to blow the clutching process but given a sometimes confused computer it might stall I suppose. so say it has stalled, can you just push the button again and it will restart, do you need to have your foot on the brake, do you need to move it back to park or neutral. will the car even start in neutral under normal circumstances? Given how rare this is I will tell you why I am asking. At least twice over the years in extreme circumstances (Freeway spinouts) being able to restart and go without any fuss has saved my butt, both times were manual transmissions, so push the clutch turn the key and scram out of the hot spot. One of the things I hate about my current car (a six speed manual audi) is that in order to restart the car after a stall the key must be returned to the off position for a moment before you can attempt a restart, this is slightly flustering even in a simple hill start stall much less a near death experience. I am thankful I was not driving this car during the above stall instances as that little dance with the key might have killed me. Now I have a PowerShift on the way and was wondering if it were to stall in some dire situation do I have to shift it to park, maybe push the button once to turn it truly off then again with my foot on the brake to get it back on then pull it back to drive and gas it? Maybe in reality it is not as hard to do as it sounds but getting the sequence right could be less than automatic in a panic situation. Thanks

I have never stalled with mine, but I know that I can start in N or P (and in fact the centre MFD shows a little graphic with a message "start with gear N or P")
I have turned off my car in N (maybe even D?) before - I am quite sure N or P would be required to start if that centre MFD message means business.

While I didn't stall it, I had stopped it because of train. Had to put it in 'N' and apply the break. Park would have worked of course. But I don't know what the person behind me if he saw the backup lights come on as I shifted from P to D which goes through R and then N. .
