Default Trunk won't work

So the only way I can open my trunk now is with the button on the key. The button above the license plate WILL NOT WORK!! Has anyone come across this? I tried to take it in but they won't give me a courtesy car, which I really do need.

many dealerships will only give you a courtesy car if the car will be in the shop for two days or more, that's pretty standard procedure. the only exception i ever saw to that was acura, they were going to give me a courtesy car once for two hours when i took the car in for an oil change, which really surprised me.

the only way to fix it is to take it in. see if they can look at it while you're there, order whatever needs to be ordered, and then you come back when the parts are there and they can just do the work while you wait. if you can't leave the car i don't see another way of going about it.

Try another dealer if there's one nearby. They all have different courtesy car policies.

I do believe it varies from dealer to dealer. My old Saturn dealer would give us a courtesy car for anything (oil change, etc). When those same workers shifted to the Kia dealership, they don't even give me a courtesy car if it'll be with them for multiple days! But they do offer to drop you off anywhere from the dealership...so if I drive my carto them, they can drive me from there to work. But that's all they offered.

My Ford dealer gave me a loaner from the time school started until my Fiesta arrived - was supposed to be 2 weeks, only ended up being 4 days.

Courtesy car is a courtesy and therefore dealer's choice. It's standard practice for longer repairs. For an oil change the dealership I went to just drove [taxied] me somewhere else in town... I opted to walk back, but they'd have come and picked me up.

I had a dealer use other customers cars to shuttle people to and from the dealer.

Are you sure they were customer cars and not off the used car lot?

I used to do some driving for service and we would occasionally drive someone home in their own car and then drive it back to the dealership but I never saw a customer car used as a shuttle.

Most dealers do offer some sort of shuttle service if they don't have loaners.

From what I have seen, it is usually some newish used car, or a new car with a lot of test drive miles.

Slightly unusual vehicles that I have seen as shuttle vehicles:

2009 VW Jetta TDI -- when the TDI engine reappeared in 2009, VW sent white Jetta TDIs with "Clean Diesel", "Not a Concept Car", and green leaves stickers on them to each dealer (one each for demo purposes). Long afterward, I saw such a car (still with all of the stickers) apparently being used as a shuttle car by one of the VW dealers.

Dodge Sprinter -- During the DaimlerChrysler years, the Mercedes Sprinter was sold as a Dodge in the US. Some Mercedes dealer got one, put its stickers all over it, and installed a Mercedes grille on it for use as a shuttle vehicle.

My dealers use either Flex or Transit Connects now as shuttles.

It was a minivan with the check engine light on. They drove it into the shop. It had a baby seat in it. A couple gallons of water and a couple of baby toys.

We had our Dodge in for hot A/C. They never even moved it out from the parking spot where we dropped it off. The service manager told me it was fixed. Then he told me 80 degrees was cold for the A/C. I even wrote Chrysler, never replied. Other probelms too. A few years earler we had a Neon that the A/C didn't work a day before vaction. No part in stock, so they took one off a new dealer stock Neon. The condensor had a hole in it. What a different a few years and a new owner makes.
