The cars are pretty much identical...improvise when you run into something that is not so identical. Especially with your knowledge in automotive tech.

Yeah, but if you screw up doing a repair you might end up with your steering wheel on the wrong side.

I find these manuals are for the very basic repair at best. They seem to not go into enough detail and omit what might seem obvious to the veteran. But then again if you're a veteran back yard mechanic I doubt this manual will tell you what you need to know. Again, not enough detail.

I've had a couple in the past. OK for some things. But what I've found to be the best is going to YouTube. I found out how to remove a rusted on brake rotor. Easy, but those things are never in manuals. I go to YouTube to find out how to do the work, Google it to find out what the problem is.

My dad is a "veteran backyard mechanic." He and I used a Haynes manual to put struts, a new radiator, replace the evaporative emission control system solenoid, and other sundry repairs in my old 97 Escort. Having a manual like this is quite handy and much cheaper than the Ford MoCo version!

eRic mislead us with this thread title though.

I used Chiltons for years doing my own stuff. Although I also admit to using the Hollanders Interchange Manual a lot as well. <shrug> Not familiar with Haynes.

Chilton's and Haynes are fairly similar; my family doesn't have a preference between the two brands. I've not heard of Hollanders.

Don't most libraries have online repair manuals?

AllData is what one would want if Haynes doesn't provide what you need.
