Default Gas Tank size

Seems that the gas tank of the Fiesta is listed as 12.0 gallons (45.4 liters) in many articles. That is wrong. It is actually 12.4 gallons (46.9 liters). I believe it is the same tank used for the Focus as well.

Don't sound like a big difference, but important to know when making fuel mpg/kpg calculations.

Only if you run the tank dry.

Exactly. The size of the tank doesn't factor into anything when you're calculating fuel consumption. Divide miles driven by gallons added.

Welp, I've run to 39 miles to empty on the computer and didn't even hit 11 gallons on the fill up. So where's the gallon and something? Not shown on the gauge or something? And no, I have no filler issue as reported in early '11 models ... when filled, the gauge does read F.

Well that works I guess if you fill up the tank until the pump shuts off, but correct me if I'm wrong, but it's usually stated in most car manuals that it's not recommened to do so.

It's reserve to help keep idiots from runing out of fuel.
Also to protect the fuel pump.

I've never read that in a manual. Many say not to 'top off the tank' after the pump clicks off. If you don't fill up until the pump clicks off how do you figure out your MPG? You have to have a consistent stopping point when filling up to figure it out.

^^^^^^
This.

That's why when the gas gauge reads E you still have a gallon or so left in the tank.
