Driver inattention.

Driving down the Northway (I-87) yesterday is saw a classic case of driver inattention.
Light traffic, good visibility. there were two cars ahead of me. Aways down the road a trooper had a car pulled over with bright red lights flashing.
The first car in our group moved to the left lane as did I. The second car did not. As it was going slower than I was and was closing, I kept enough distance, in case it did move over. Sure enough, just as we reached the trooper, the driver suddenly swerved to the left. I was close enough by then that I had to brake. Shortly after, as i passed, it was two ederly ladies chatting away as if nothing had happened.
I just bugs me when i see stuff like that. Then people run into the back of trucks.
So that is my rant for the day.
I had a nice Christmas with my daughter and grandchildren way up in north Vermont.

I was rearended by a lane changer...The sad thing is it was in a borrowed vehicle.

I had an old guy almost pull out of a business into me the other day. He looked right at me and my car, paused and then started to go like I wasn't even there. I swerved into the far lane safely, and he stopped short so no harm done. It freaked me out though. Stupid driver!

The biggest reason why I put bright LED DRLs on my car is to be clearly noticed by all those on the highway who are challenged drivers, don't care, or just plain forget about the priviledge of driving. As much as I try to be seen, it doesn't matter because there are still plenty of idiots on the highway. I can't stress enough (which I do to my 16 year old daughter who is now driving) how important it is to be the best defensive driver you can be.

On the same trip. I was closing on a mini-van. Before I got to him, he pulled out to pass a car,so I just coasted up behind him, figuring he would pull over. Nope, so I waited, maybe passing another car. Still there.
I did all of the things you are supposed to do, directional on. Still there.
Flashed my headlights. Still there. So I moved to the left so that he would see me in the side mirror. Kept flashing my lights. Suddenly, he pull back over, like he just came to as to what he was doing.
Other than that I had an unevenful trip.

Then there was the time when I was driving a school bus. Big, bright yellow vehicle with all kinds of flashing lights. Woman backs out of a driveway right into the bus. "I didn't see it" she says.
