Default Arctic Blast

Anyone in Western Canada knows about the cold arctic air we've been getting for a few days. I decided to try out the block heater last night. I plugged into an outlet and let it sit over night. I quickly found out the next morning that that particular outlet didn't work. I got in the car and fearfully pressed the start button. After about 8 seconds of hard, rough cranking the engine came to life loudly. The LCD screen for the stereo was non functional. And the climate control dials were stuck in place. The temperature gauge, however, was working just fine. I'll find an outlet that works tonight.

F that. We've had a nice mild winter here in the midwest states that I've been enjoying thoroughly.

I think I might've been afraid to try and start it. I would imagine the oil would not quickly flow to the necessary components on start-up that need it most at the most important time.

Just out of curiosity, are you using syn, blend or dino oil? And what viscosity?

I'm really missing the snow to tell you the truth. Hell, i just bought some Snow tires a few days ago, and it's not even worthwhile to put them on my car yet.

I have noticed that the message center in the dash is really slow when it gets super cold. I can't claim a negative temp like yours but at zero F, you could see how the screen was affected.

And you'd best keep that cold right the heck up there ... no shooting it down my way!

The Fiesta will also start at -29 F (-33.9 C) without being plugged in. That's with Mobil 1 5w-20. This winter, in an effort to be nicer to my Fiesta, I'm plugging it in every night the temp goes below freezing.
