I see that Ford owners will soon get a signifiicant upgrade to the MyFord Touch sys by way of a USB flash drive mailed out to owners in the U.S. My question is: is there an upgrade also for the Sync sys in the 2011 Fiesta's? are the Sync and the MYFord touch sys basically the same? I am assuming this upgrade will also be avail to Canadian owners too, some time later? Keith

No and no. 2011 Fiesta owners were given complimentary USB keys with the Fiesta logo on them at purchase, which had some advertising and information stuff on them. You can reformat that or use any USB stick, download the latest Sync version from SYNC | Say the Word | Ford.com and then follow the instructions on the site for how to apply the upgrade. While confusing the first time you do it, applying Sync upgrades via USB is easy.

Our 2011 Explorer Limited has MFT. It's a lot more advanced than the Sync system in my car. Ours has been flawless, but they're have been many complaints about the reliability of the system and the whole computer basically crashing while you're driving, leaving you with no stereo, navigation, heated/cooled seat controls, and climate controls.

Thanks Audrey, I didn't get the USB when I purchased my Fiesta, I will ask the dealer next time I go in. Is there any way that Sync can be upgraded to the MyFord touch sys by the same USB procedure? Keith

SYNC is only offered on the Fiesta in its most basic form. MyFord Touch is a different system than what's in the Fiesta. I don't know of any way that MyFord Touch can be installed into a vehicle that was never designed to have it. Maybe in future models MyFord Touch will make its way to the Fiesta.

I bought the first Fiesta my dealer received. I bought it only for transportation. Have never used Sync system and will probably never do so. I now wish I would have ordered a Fiesta so I didn't have to pay for something I don't use. My bad!

Answer: Yes, but not the same USB as a MyTouch one (different files are used for the upgrades because they are different systems entirely). See my first post about visiting the SyncMyRide website. The only difference is that you download the file and put it on a USB yourself. You then have to go to the car and follow the instructions for applying the upgrade. While that process may not be 100% the same as installing the upgrade from a MyTouch USB it is likely very similar.

We have both a Fiesta and a Focus. While we have some problems with MFT, none are show stoppers. We have received neither the MFT USB nor the Nav SD card.
There will be step by step instructions included with both updates although I will monitor the www.focusfanatics.com forum for feedback re experiences applying the updates.

The focus that the dealer's rented for me has myford touch. It's confusing as hell, and since it's a rental I don't have the manual and don't really want to invest the time in reading it anyway.
It took me forever to figure out how to change the radio station. I did notice an RCA cable input in the center console, so I guess you can watch movies on it. Not that I would watch a movie in my car, but it's an option. The rental guy was showing me the car and was like "I guess you car has this too". Not so much. |
