I would buy a Opel Corsa OPC over the Fiesta due to aftermaket parts that are available. 1.6L 190hp is too hard to pass up. VW Polo GTI will come close at 180ps but the Fiesta ST will only match the VW.

Mrbirdman,

You need to go near one, especially the 65-69. They are a great little car. The rear suspension is a outstanding design. Holds up to modern competion.

The steering is what power steering dreams about. Rear engine, so you don't need power assist. Great feel and feedback without being heavy.

It made Jay Leno's top ten favorite car list!

The part about the new Aveo replacement is that it still is based on the same platform. The same engine is still being used I belive. And it will have the ugly split grill. They need to style a car to look good, not to look like all the other Chevys.

No it's not. The new Aveo is based on GM's Gamma platform, developed originally by Opel; the current Aveo uses a Daewoo-designed chassis. As for the engine, not sure about that but I think GM intends to use something like a 1.2 turbo to improve fuel economy.

Also, the production Aveo has been revealed through patent drawings/renders:

This is kinda a finished concept, supposedly more then 80% will stay as is. 138hp, 6-speed manual option turbo 1.4.

I think it looks great from the front, not so much on the back. I love the headlights, even more then angel eyes on my bimmer. Tail light looks like HHR's tail lights and just about as ugly. Interior looks good, hopefully all manufacturers will start offering leather interiors on small cars now, because I don't think small cars are just econo boxes anymore. Not too hot on the digital speedometer, should really make rpm and speedo anolog at the least.

The same can be said about the Fiesta, as its styling is hardly original. I look at the lines on a 2011 Fiesta and I think.....BMW copycat. Hell, maybe BMW copied someone else, I don't know. But what I do know is that Fiesta "borrowed" alot of it's styling from other cars, so you haven't got a leg to stand on if you think the Aveo is someone how copying the Fiesta. Honestly, exterior wise, I think the Aveo has more original styling then the Fiesta

That seems like a bit of a stretch Casca... The only similar thing I see is the indent that follows where the door handles are, and it's quite different itself - ALL other lines, shapes and curves are completely different.

I do, however, agree with you that the Chevy pictured doesn't really look anything like the Fiesta

I am talking about the crease lines. Maybe another car company did it earlier and I am unaware, but the first time I saw that crease was on a 2006 bmw(the 2004 to 2005 were indented). I think the crease line as well as an antenna in the center of the roof is very distinctive. Now I see the crease on Hyundais, Fords, Honda's, the Aveo and probably more. As far as I could tell, that was the only real styling similarity between the Aveo and the Fiesta and actually I think the Aveo did a better interpertation of it on the bottem crease. I just don't like how the paneling on the wheel area of the Fiesta goes flat, think the Aveo or the Bimmer's wheel area looks better.

I'm not holding my breath on this matter as a Ford Rep assured me. GM has been more talk than walk when it comes to this Aveo RS. We'll see the same Average Aveo and Spark come out with nothing on the performance line. It will most likely be reserved for the Cruze to combat what Ford punches out in the Focus Performance Line which better be a real RS Focus for the states so GM will look stupid when their ''Performance Cruze'' comes out.

I posted some leaked shots of the production Aveo in the post above this:

Patent drawings reveal 2012 Chevrolet Aveo sedan — Autoblog

It's definitely faithful to the RS concept, but the racier details have predictably been lost.

I don't think the Aveo has styling that's any more original than the Fiesta. The side surfacing is pretty standard, and the front end is very reminiscent of the Mitsubishi Lancer and Lancer Evo. The Fiesta at least has a distinctive, original front end, whatever you may think of the side crease's resemblance to the E90 3-series.
