I was at the Aveo press conferance yesterday, and the car was called a "concept" and "showcar" over and over again. When you make that big of a point of calling it that, there is very little that will actually be production. The actual press conferance was boring for the Aveo, and the car makes no sense parked next to the Spark. Talking with the other journalists, they all seem to agree the Aveo RS makes no sense. I think it is a ploy to get attention away from the Fiesta, which was getting lots of love from the press yesterday. I had to wait in line to sit in them! The Aveo RS just left everyone scratching their heads to WTF is the point of the car?

I agree completely. The thing is that the first rumors were about a Aveo RS which would be a near-production car. Instead we get another fanciful dream. GM needs to learn that people have grown tired of promises which are not kept. I was excited about the prospect of a small hot hatch, but I doubt this will be produced.

Hence why Ford need not to worry about this concept.

They may not need to worry about it but they could show how well it can be done

We'll most likely be seeing a Fiesta ST as well as Focus ST soon enough.

The Aveo is basically a Daewoo design with a chevy badge slapped on it...

The Aveo is a pretty dull, and expensive B class car. I honestly don't see any Aveo being legit competition to the lasest Fiesta...

I'm curious what makes you think we'll see a Fiesta ST? Ford as been routinely denying they have any plans for it. The Fiesta has been out since the 2008 model year in Europe, correct? I would think they'd have at least hinted at an ST by now.

Europe has already gotten sport variants of the current Fiesta, more than likely it is possible in the works an ST. The Focus in Europe has had ST Variants on all MK's and will more than likely continue to get ST variants. North America will probably as well provided it doesn't muck up the ST nameplate again. IE, actually give you a real ST Model for the first year then demolish the last two years of production. The ST badge has a good chance of carrying over to the North American shores again. There is a good enough demand for them. I also never remember reading about any hints of a Focus ST Sedan before its debut as well. Seems Ford does love surprises, both good and bad.

The only sports versions are offered through aftermarket companies. Granted they are companies associated with Ford and don't void the factory warranty, and maybe - just maybe - we'll get that too. But I see that as a bit different from a factory produced model.

I'm fully convinced we'll get a Focus ST for sure. Fiesta ST its possible, I'm thinking though looking at what other markets have most likely we'll see a Fiesta "S" (sport) like in other markets and what I have a 1:18 Scale of. I would love to see a Fiesta XR4.
