Mazda 2

we looked at the 2 before getting the golf. neither of us were impressed. it came across as a cheap version of the fiesta. and wow did it feel cheap.

Mazda claims they took ford's chassis and made it better.

I think the numbers speak for themselves.

When we test drove we didn't get the same impression as PSi Chick did but we also were replacing a 1993 Protege so just about anything would have felt opulent.

Cheap is in the eye of the beholder for sure.

we already had the fiesta at the time so it was a direct comparison for us. the 2 just couldn't stand up to the fiesta.

Interior appointments aside, the Fiesta is simply the better looking car. Better looking from any angle than virtually all of it's subcompact competitors. Only possible exception would be a white Fit Sport with all of the Mugen accessories... and even then I think the Fiesta looks better.

RE: comparison:
We actually found getting into and out the back seat easier in the Fiesta and the room there better. Front seats were also not a comfortable to the extent we didn't even look at the price.

The kick would be so worth it. I'll airkick one someday and feel like a hero. "I do this for all of the Faction!" ...maybe I'll leave an FF card on their window. Hehe!

I finally got to drive one - and in all fairness I must probably be biased already. The 2 had a noisier heater fan (but to its credit more vent settings because there's 'halfway' settings between each main setting), the engine is just a little weezier, the conventional automatic less smooth than powershift with less gears. More hard plastic in the 2. The higher trim audio I have in my Fiesta sounds better but its hard to compare when I usually listen to MP3 and have only tried the radio in the 2. 2 had much better designed rear headrests that retract all the way down and as such rear visibility is better. 2 doesn't have variable intermittent wipers, but does have both "cold" and "hot" engine temperature dummy lights, and steering mounted volume controls.

They don't feel like stablemates at all.
