![]() @ 368 miles, I had 3 bars of gas left... I took it all the way to 429 (and then circled the parking lot near the gas station to get it a nice even 430)... Put in 9.96 gallons of gas to the first click. The Yaris has an 10.8 or 11.1 gallon tank, I think... ![]() ![]() ![]() According to YarisWorld members, the Yaris has DFCO (Deceleration Fuel Cut Off), but I'd rather throw it into neutral than strain the engine. - 2011 Yaris - 5 Door 5 Speed - Winter Package - Power Package - 65 mph MAX - neutral to all stop lights, stop lights, up ramps, down ramps - shift @ 2800 RPMs - windows down, AC on the highway (on low only) - no drafting (not worth the risk safetywise and paint chips) I'm still very much a fan of the Fiesta, so I'm staying on this forum if y'all don't mind. Will change the oil @ 3K and throw Mobil 1 in there. This is my first tank... Wonder what numbers I do when the engine is fully broken in @ 10K miles... 45-55?! Scary! ![]() ![]()

Not hard to believe, in fact in tests, the Yaris has gotten almost 50 mpg.
YouTube - ‪50 MPG in a Toyota Yaris?‬‏ Not too hard to believe. Consider: My (ex) wife had a 1981 2 door Honda Civic hatchback with a 67 hp 1.5L engine with a 3 speed automatic transmission. It was a gutless dog. Top speed was (eventually) 85 mph. However, even with that set up, we were getting 40 mpg hwy. That was with a carburetor. So, not hard to believe a more modern 4 cylinder car with a fuel injected engine and more gears in the transmission couldn't get better mileage. Sure, newer cars are heavier than thier earlier counterparts, but still, more efficeint, even better aerodynamically. That's why I can't understand why anyone would buy a dumb .... I mean, Smart car. You could get a 3 door Toyota hatchback which is still a short car (shorter than a Fiesta) so easy to park. Yet it has more room than a Smart car. More HP than a Smart car. More interior/luggage space than a Smart car. BETTER gas mileage than a Smart car. AND costs about the same. So why anyone would buy a Smart car for any reason is beyond me. My theory as to why the Yaris is underrated as far as MPG is Toyota itself. So as not to compete with thier own Prius. I mean, if people knew the yaris could get almost 50 mpg, then why pay thousands of $$$ more for a Prius to get just slightly better mpg overall?

Because the Prius can do that in the city.
On short highway stints I can get close to 75mpg. I live in a very hilly area so its hard to keep over 50mpg over a full tank but there are plenty of guys out there that do well over 60mpg lifetime in their prii' No doubt the Yaris and the Fiesta are amazing, really amazing when you consider the price but while you sit at a stoplight or in a traffic jam watching your MPGs drop I can sit in my prius and not use a drop of gas...and for the real world that comes in mighty handy.

My 2008 Yaris used to get 40 mpg on my work commute. They're a good reliable car, but
I got rid of it to buy the Fiesta. The Yaris was (is) just too darn noisy inside, and worst of all, the seating position was horrible for me, and I'm only 5'6".

I love the cupholders in front of the vents. AC keeps my ice coffee colder longer. The stereo unit SUCKS BALLS. The lettering is very faint (why, Toyota?!), offering very little contrast. Gets washed out. Volume knob is tiny and useless. There is a TON of STORAGE SPACE! 3 glove compartments up front... AWESOME. Rides very well. Engine a lil thrashy sounding while accelerating, but very smooth once at cruising speed. Acceptable wind noise (I can have a conversation without fighting the wind). Zippy handling. Push it too hard and body roll pops up. Tons of headroom. Way less claustrophobic than the Fiesta. Seats fold flat (VERY IMPORTANT in a car this small). Shifter feels better than the Fiesta's. Mushy brakes. Almost rear ended someone when I first drove it back. HAha. Fit and finish is EXCELLENT< but the material is horrifically cheap. Hope that helps.
