Default Fiesta vs asian twin 2012 Accent?

Anyone test drive both? I'm surprised there aren't more comparisons as these two cars are basically twins. I kind of dismissed the Accent at first because Hyundai isn't offering much in the way of incentives and the ride didn't seem as smooth as the Fiesta. However, after reading some people's (perhaps minor) complaints about the Fiesta 5spd manual high rpms on highway etc., and realizing the Accent actually has a 6 spd manual standard, I started to wonder if maybe I should go back and take another look. The Fiesta SE sedan with sport appearance (for cruise) has an MSRP of around 15.8, vs 15 for the Accent (which doesn't have keyless entry or cruise), but after $1000 of incentives they are pretty close in price... although it would be annoying to not have keyless entry and cruise.

Anyone drive the Accent in stick?

I've also heard the Accent has really good gas mileage. This is a quote from one guy... I think he was on flat terrain with no stops (who knows how accurate): "The thing will average 58+mpg at 45 mph. At 55 it is getting 54mpg. At 70 it gets 40.5mpg."

I'm 99% sure I'm going with the Fiesta but just wondering what you guys thought.

Uhh, I get those numbers with the Fiesta pretty easily, haha. Also, just FYI but I've had no problems with noise from the high rpms on the highway. Yeah, it gets up there, but you don't notice it at all. Actually, I think I might go over to the Kia dealer in Columbus tomorrow (the one by me knows my face too well after I took an Optima Turbo out for a joyride, hehe) because I've been wondering the same thing. I highly doubt I'll get buyers remorse but you know what they say, keep your friends close and your enemies closer...

Another thing, I highly doubt I'll find one with a stick since I live in a place where people aren't exactly fond of manuals, haha.

That's what I'm getting with my 5 speed. I guess that extra gear doesn't help too much.

That's not right at all... Are you in a high-altitude area?

They aren't even close in price around here.

Base auto sedans are listing at 16k.

S Fiestas are 13k.

Well I mean... the bare bones accent is listed on the website as 12.5, but once you add basic standards it's 15k according to the website (in manual!). Of course you can get more with the fiesta for that price. The Accent did feel a little sloppy when I test drove it, and I probably would not want to forgo keyless entry and cruise control for a 6th gear in a sloppy feeling car, but... I just like to look at all the possibilities and couldn't find ANY reviews or comparisons of the new Accent (I only found 1 in a forum from a buyer). Actually the one reviewer did say when he test drove the manual he found 6 gears to be confusing and way too much work, so he got the automatic.

And actually I just remembered, the mpg comparison may not be fair because I think Hyundai puts special "low rolling resistance silica" tires on there stock... are those even safe?

only if you consider 32ft above sea level high altitude lol there's always been something screwy with my car. i was thinking of asking next time i take it in, but i don't even know what to ask them to check really.

give it a few months. the accent just came out. i'm sure the major mags will do a comparison soon enough. and the guy who got the automatic because 6 gears was confusing.....well he needs to get off the road if he can't handle a sixth gear lol, yea he's an idiot.

of course low resistance tires are safe. they would not be standard equipment on a car if they were not. although they don't make as much of a difference as they would like you to think. you save about 5% on fuel costs, which might sound like a lot but in reality tests are showing a difference of say 5.5 vs 5.8 liters of fuel. really not very much. plus these low resistance tires often give up handling aspects as well as longevity to achieve fuel savings, plus they tend to be slightly more expensive than the conventional tire, so much of what you save in fuel costs goes towards buying the tire itself. so all in all, great for a stock tire, probably not the best choice in a replacement tire.

Chick, I know you are a big car girl so don't take offense but if the oil is filled high it will seriously affect fuel economy. Prii take upto a 4mpg hit if filled just over the fill line.

With the slopiness of other aspects of our cars it is possible they put a little too much in.

Also tire pressures are important for econ.

**Thinking maybe you didn't know these things since you seem very much performance oriented.**
