Default Saw the new Sonic

At our local GM dealer. it was in that orange colour that they're advertising. Pretty sharp looking hatch. Fiesta has some new competition.

I'm not impressed. I'll bet my Fiesta with years of practice in Europe as being the better car in spite of a few tranny problems.

Just give them some body glitter and a new purse and they're no problem at all. Err uhm...

The Sonic is just Aveo 2.0. I don't like it. It's still a Chevy; eew.

Christy's dad got to drive one all day (he works as a mech at a dealership but it was his birthday so they let him have fun).

He said he enjoyed it.

I've said this before, but if the Sonic had been out earlier this year when I started researching new cars, I never would have even remotely considered my Fiesta purchase. I've been incredibly against Ford all of my driving years. I still get a little shock when I see the symbol glaring back at me from the steering wheel.

hey I was Chrysler for 40 years after a disaster with Ford. Look at me now ... touting Fiesta like a rabid salesman.

I wonder if there's a safe way to overlay the blue oval with a bowtie or pentastar? Just for old times sake?

Glad it wasn't then. We would have missed you.

Reliability of small Chevy's is still not what it is for small Fords. They may have fixed it, but it will take a few years to know if they have stopped using the segment to get their Fleet Average Fuel Economy down.

When was the last time Chevy had a good small car? Even the Corvair had a couple of issues when they first came out. GM samll cars lacked quality, durablity or just were out classed by the competition. Anyone remember the Vega's? Chevettes were about ten years out of date when they started selling them here. If the Cobalt was so good, they would still be using the name.

I was just reading the Associated Press review of the Sonic...found this part interesting.

"And, the Sonic came with a key fob to lock and unlock the doors. But it turned out to activate the alarm on another car parked in the same office parking garage that I used. When I pushed the fob again, the screeching alarm went silent. This happened repeatedly. It appeared both cars were using the same frequency."

The GMC family of cars has always had a mindset that says,"let the competition do the innovation and we'll just fill the gap when it proves itself popular". General Motors has never been innovative. I can't think of any thing they ever came up with that was truly original. That's not to say that they haven't built good stuff (my Safari van can attest to that), but they always seem to be a dollar short and a day late.

Now correct me if I'm in error but just to name few I believe the following were originated by: (limited only to domestic lines)

mini-van: Chrysler

today's econo-car (Fiesta): Ford

Automatic trans goes way back to Chrysler

Hydraulic brakes: Chrysler

High-compression engine with replaceable-element oil filter (1924) : Chrysler

Electronic ignition in all cars: Chrysler

I know there are more from Ford but I can't think of any just now.
