I'm working on a new series of how-to videos. I'm not a hypermiler, by any stretch of the imagination. I just drive conscientiously. It's not all that complicated.

The tools we use include a ScanGaugeII, an AutoMeter EcoMeter, and some iOS stuff. Just picked up a ScanGaugeE at SEMA.

I always calculate average MPGs with tank fills and use the same station/pump whenever possible.

I saw the CNET Cars review of the Sonic...all I got to say it, FUGLY! I can't believe those "pods' on the dash are what they found acceptable as a design, and that someone actually agreed to go with that in production!

Rest of the car was okay, but nothing close to the Fiesta in styling and features.

They may be similar in price, but that's about where the similarities end!

Based solely on the videos I think I would lean towards the Sonic. Shame on me!

Great videos! I really liked the MPGomatic reviews. I really enjoy the Fiesta, but I think the front of the Sonic looks better. Id stick with the Fiesta though because I'm not sure how id feel about Chevy's engines. I came from a Chevy family and the only car that didnt seem disconnected was the my dad's 93 Corsica LT

The 6 Speed with a Turbo is a nice option to have.

You can only get the turbo with a 6 speed manual. No automatic. It's got pretty good performance for a little 1.4L Between the 2 though, the fiesta has a much nicer interior and a more upscale appearence overall, To me the (exterior) styling on the Sonic already looks dated, much as the 3rd generation Subaru Impreza did when it came out. Blah.

Your way wrong,go see and drive the car for yourself.My bestfriend works at Ford dealership...so i've seen the Fiesta and drove it on several occassions,i love the car,but the interior materials between it and the Sonic are pretty equal.I actually like something about everything in the B-segment, its my favorite car class right now.The Sonic,Mazda2,and Fiesta are my favorites right now....the Rio would move in with them if the SX had a manual.

They all have their merits but the Sonic and the Fiesta are the best overall package's.....the the 2 is like a FWD Miata with space its a great drivers car and a great autocross toy its a very very good handler...if this thing had a motor and some interior technology packages it would be on fire it has the best shifter out of all of them the Sonic and the Fiesta are about even under the 2.The Fiesta is a fantastic overall package..it pretty much does everything good to great except for backseat room and storage.

The Rio and Accent are great packages,the Rio i really like again except you cant get a manual in the SX trim,going to the Hyundai dealer looking at the Accent may have you looking at a Veloster which i like better than it. The Fit has great cargo room...and its a better drivers car than the Versa...the Yaris gets great gas milege better than its specs the 500 is a cool car...it deffinetly has the best exhaust note...

But in the end for me there was only 1 for me the Sonic LTZ Turbo...its the only true off the lot pocketrocket.Its comfortable and well built and stylish and rides good like the Fiesta,its fun to drive and has a great chasis like the Mazda 2, very good room like the Fit,it has the best electric front wheel drive steering rack around great gas milege like the Yaris...and its a trifecta tune away from tangling with GTI's,Abarths,FRS/BRZ,Speed3's,and the Veloster Turbo all for $18.6k its the 1st modern B-segment car to straddle worlds with the pocket rockets.

You had me till you said the sonic is just a tune away from hanging with speed3!!!! The sonic is a decent enough car, but jeeeez...

Well not quite a tune for the 3 a lil more than that dp full exhaust maybe....but for the others yea a tune away until a GTI gets a tune atleast he might break before me....lol
