Default Another reason to avoid the Honda Fit

The Honda Fit will be produced in China and imported into Canada. It's a matter of time before the US Fit will be from the same Chinese factory.

First Chinese car imported to North America built by... Honda?

There's no indication that the vehicles will make their way to the U.S. in the future, however.

...

Honda and other Japanese manufacturers have begun investigating production facilities outside of the U.S. to combat the rising Yen, and Honda says that the company will begin producing Fit models in Mexico for U.S. customers soon.
I doubt they'll make them in China for the US market in the near foreseeable future, and your article agrees.

Honestly, I'm more concerned with who's making the car than where it's made. If Honda's making it, it's probably impeccably built and will run like a clock until the apocalypse (unless the transmission goes).

Just because the company has a reputation for quality does not mean that every location will utilize the same standards of quality.

For example, since building cars in the US, more recalls by Toyota have been on Toyota cars made in the US.

Honda recently recalled airbags from several models. All were manufactured in the US or Canada.

Now, look at other outsourcing ventures. Places known for quality have outsourced their call centers to places like India and the Philippines. Customer service plummeted as a result.

Fair enough, but I still would not write off all Chinese-built cars just because they're from China.

Exactly. Just remember a lot of people wrote off Korean and Japanese cars in the past. Now they have become a force to be reckoned with in the industry and marketplace.

I honestly think China will become a significant player in the coming years. I don't think the automakers would have invested so much in the Chinese market if they thought that there would not be any potential.

I disagree. The automakers invested so much into the Chinese market because of the internal Chinese demand for western vehicles. The manufacture of vehicles in China is simply because the tariffs of imported vehicles are so prohibitive and the laws so restrictive, only the most elite of the elite in China would be able to afford them.
