Buying a MAZDA 2 Next Weekend (Possibly)

I went with a friend to the Mazda dealership where he bought a brand new Mazda 2. They're letting the remaining 2011s go for very little money... $13,500.00 for the Sport and $14,995.00 for the Touring (adds alloys, 6 speakers instead of 4, rear spoiler, cruise, and steering wheel buttons). I test drove one again (I had tested them previously) and decided that I NEED to have this car, especially if I can trade in my 2011 Yaris (lol) with a little bit of money. The handling on the Mazda 2 is absolutely SUBLIME. I went on a un-escorted test drive and let's just say that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get the tires to chirp. This thing RIDES ON RAILS. I believe that it is quite possibly the BEST-HANDLING FWD car on the market and I've driven everything from the Fiesta to the Focus to the Mini Cooper S to the 1 Series to the Audi A3. The best way to describe the handling is surgical. Shift feel is almost as good as the Fit, just slightly less silky. It's got like 100 HP, but feels faster than the Fit, Fiesta, and my Yaris. And I've actually come to love the goofy ass smile.

Note: I also test drove a Fiat 500. Spectacular design/interior, cute, GOOD not great handling, but drinks PREMIUM and is good for only 38 highway. Pass! Plus they insulted me and offered me 9K for my Yaris.

Good choice! The 2 does have a bit more agility than the Fiesta due to it being lighter. And Mazda can definitely build a slick manual shifter. It has a bit of a rougher ride than the Ford, but compared to the Yaris it'll feel like a 911! Get er done...

The 2 is my favorite subcompact after the Fiesta, good call. Much, much better than the Yaris.

In fact, were I to get a car now, I'd spend alot of time deciding between the 2 and Fiesta...the 2 is supposed to be more tossable and has better shift feel, but the Fiesta looks better inside and out (IMO), rides better and has better NVH suppression.

Thom isn't a troll. He was considering a Fiesta before he purchased a Yaris. I assume he joined the faction to find out about the fiesta, the same as almost everyone else. Just because he went a different way, doesn't mean he can't contribute.

Look at his threads, Yaris with better fuel economy, Accent luxurious and smooth, Mazda 2 better handling. I'm not hating on these cars as they are great alternatives, but all Thom talks about is how there so much better...

Looked at Mazda 2, as well as all the other cars in that class. The wife and I thought the seats were less comfortable that the Fiesta and it was harder to get in and out of the rear seats, for us. Also, needed an auto so having a better stick wouldn't be a player. However, these are all subjective so choice is good. Glad Thom found a car he likes.
