This may be a dumb question, but I wonder if cutting off the stock tips and welding straight ones on (instead of downturns) would improve sound?

I'm not sure your going to hear any difference in sound. Why? Well the hatch tips and sedan are two different lengths and shapes but neither have a drastic difference in sound.

You want more noise? Change the muffler, it's not going to be tuned but it'll be louder.

The Borla muffler gives one of the nicest "quiet" sounds.
My ZX2SR came with one.

Yeah, but like I wrote earlier in this thread the Magnaflow I had on my SVT Focus sounded much quieter than the Magnaflow videos of the Fiesta I have heard. The Borla is the same as the FRPP, right? Too expensive. I will go back and take another listen, however.

The magnaflow isn't too loud. It's got a good sound during acceleration, but not that obnoxious ricer screech, and is quiet during cruising. I like it.

i'd have to say that the flowmaster/hushpower dBx sounds better than the magnaflow...

From the videos it sounds like the fowmaster/hushpower system is more quiet as well. I personally prefer the sound over the magnaflow too.
