TSB 10-25-2 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH STICKY HONEY COLORED MANUFACTURING GREASE IN TRANSMISSION BELLHOUSING
Publication Date: December 10, 2010 FORD: 2011 Fiesta ISSUE: Some 2011 Fiesta vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission may exhibit a sticky, honey-colored manufacturing grease residue within the transmission bellhousing. Customer may perceive it as a fluid leak. ACTION: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. SERVICE PROCEDURE Inspect transmission bellhousing for signs of engine oil leak. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00 for diagnosing engine oil leak. Inspect bellhousing for transmission fluid. Transmission fluid will be slick verses sticky. Refer to WSM, Section 307-11 for transmission fluid leak inspections. Is residue a sticky, honey-colored manufacturing grease and not engine oil or transmission fluid? Yes - Got to Step 4. No - Stop. Refer to WSM for normal diagnostics. Remove transaxle. Refer to WSM, Section 307-11. Remove flexplate and clean manufacturing grease from both sides of the flexplate with Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner or equivalent. Refer to WSM, Section 303-01. Reinstall flexplate using new flexplate bolts. Refer to WSM, Section 303-01. Clean inside of transmission bellhousing with Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner or equivalent. NOTE: AVOID SPRAYING MOTORCRAFT® METAL BRAKE PART CLEANER OR EQUIVALENT ON CLUTCH AND/OR SEAL. Reinstall transaxle. Refer to WSM, Section 307-11.
