So I had a call today from the local reginal service person that she is workign on what happened to my parts. It turns out she was never involved before now because the service guy I deal with had his boss, the dealer serive manager escalate the issue...which he never bothered to do. I did get some very important info for all other 5-speed owners out there reading this..... It turns out we all have a defective second gear that was never hardened properly from the factory. They placed a do not sell oreder al all second gear parts for the transmissions untill the good parts are available. I was told if I did get a new tranny it would still ahve the old bad gear in it because they have yet to make new ones with the good gear in them. The new gears were scheduled to ship out from the 3rd party that makes the gears on Feb 7th and arrive to Ford on Feb 27th. I was told if I want a new transmission with a good part it might be several months to get it, so here I am still waiting for mine to be fixed. At the very least I will push for a longer transmission warrenty out of this because if it is truly fixed then it will cost nothing..if its still bad at lerast I am covered. Ford has disapointed me on this because they obviously knew of the issue when I brought my car to the dealer yet they told the dealer at the time no one else has the issue...the dealer told me today that Ford has gotten LOTS of reports of failures lately like I have whith mine. The bottom line is the tranny has a defective second gear and Ford does not have in its posseion a replacement yet. Am I glat I bought a Fiesta, let me tell you. - I updated to remove mustang reference, thats another issue in itself! As far as the Fiesta gear issue I saw the paperwork from Ford with my own eyes that had the date of the do not sell order as well as shipping times for parts and such.

That's quite an allegation about the Mustang. Or if it's a fact, please let us know what reliable source you obtained it from.

Fiesa,
Any idea on what build dates this might cover? I've looked over your posts and you have not indicated your cars year or build date. I'm just curious, mine shifts fine.

My car is a 2012 I bought in september 2011, yes Its Feb right now and I STILL don't have my car fixed. the letter from ford did not specify any dates, it only told the dealer that all existing gears are not to be sold due to the defect that has been experienced by many owners. My car made the grinding from 500 miles onward, all I can say is keep an eye on it and hope yours is fine! When I did bring mine to the second dealer that took it in to finaly try to fix it they inquired to Ford as to weather this was a known issue and were told they had never heard of it before, though the notice they got from Ford recently indicates they were expecting new gears at least from the first of the year and was a big enough issue for them to take action on the part. Keep in mind I never had an issue with the grinding going into reverse as I know that is a normal part of a non-syncro reverse gear and I had no cold shifting issues...as I live in a warm climate adn any manulas I have owned do weird things when not warmed up. My issue was stritly a grinding noise shifting into second gear..at any RPM...if I did no pause between gears for a moment. When the dealer disassembled the transmission they found I belive five parts damaged., and I know the dealer is not dragging thier feet as my car has been on a lift in the shop all this time taking up space!

I friend of mine works in purchasing for service parts at Ford (that's one of the nice things about living in SE Michigan). When I asked him about this he confirmed there definitely is a quality hold on their existing service part stock and it should be resolved very, very soon. He also indicated the quality issue has nothing to do with the hardening of the gear (but he asked me not to post the specific details) and that the production parts used to asemble the transmission were not affected.
