Default 5-speed shifting grind (not in reverse!)

I have a 2012 5-speed that shifts fine most all of the time except if I shift into 2nd gear above say 3000 RPM and pull in out of first into second very fast it grinds. if I shift by pulling easy it is fine at any RPM. Is this a issue of are the syncros just unable to handle that fast of a shift inot second?

Try an experiment.

Instead of just a normal fast shift where the clutch is in and out quickly try pushing the clutch in normally and then pull the shift lever really quickly in to second gear.

See if it still makes the noise, I'd bet the issue is not with the transmission but with clutch disengagement.

It could be that if you're speed shifting you aren't quite nailing the timing right so you're shifting with the clutch partially engaged.

I suppose it's also possible that the clutch needs to be bled, if you have air in the line it could cause the clutch to not fully disengage and cause a similar problem.

Or just take it in and have it looked at under warranty if you really feel it's a defective transmission.

The 2 to 3 shift seems to be the most problamatical since the shifter changes the internal shifting mechanism. I have found that instead of pushing the shifter in a diagonal matter, sliding from 2-3, that doing it in an H pattern helps. Come out of 2, move lever to the right, then directly forward for 3rd. Or just hold side pressure on the lever as you shift.

the Fiesta does not like being shifted too quickly. I learned this at test-n-tune at a drag strip... ): 1-2 crunch. D'oh! 2-3 CRUNCH D'oh!! my buddies were like "are you a noob?" and I'm like "no I've had the Fiesta for over a year now" :b

I haven't really pushed my fiesta too hard, but every time I punch it I don't notice grinding during any of my shifts

2-3 shifts have always been a bit of an issue with cable operated shift linkage, I've found it's best to just be a little more deliberate and not go just for quick shifts.
