The "change your oil" reminder is just that, a reminder. It's like setting a timer for 10000 miles or a year (whichever happens first), it doesn't receive any sensor/input data other than time and distance travelled.

$8/qrt $3/filter Heres the cost to change oil ever 3k within the 10k oil'minder (change cost of 3k vs 10k) 8 * 4 = $32 + $3 filter = $35 * 3k/miles = $105 or 8 * 4 = $32 + $3 filter = $35 * 10k/miles = $35 I know for sure that extra $70 could go towards new tires or rims or whatever. But as for the reminder, just let it go the distance. There's no need as long as you have the proof of the reciept!

[QUOTE=justafiesta;128950]Oh well then I stand corrected. I'll still stick with my schedule though.
Here's the bottom line... Oils, particularly syn. oils, have improved by leaps and bounds in the last 10 years. Your "rules of oil change engagement" are outdated and if you spent some time researching the subject you would hopefully understand that. YOU ARE DUMPING PERFECTLY GOOD OIL AT 4OOO MILES! At the very least get a Blackstone Kit and see what your motor is doing to the oil @ 4000. Oh yea, one last thing...I bet you won't own your Fiesta anywhere near 300,000 miles for the Valvoline marketing ploy thing.

This is one of those never ending discussions. I say to each their own, me I'm good at less than 10k on my changes, and sure as heck aren't using blend motorcraft for 10k.

2011 Fiesta:
To reset the oil service light and clear the oil change message after servicing use the following procedure: 1. With the ignition in the off position, press the brake and accelerator pedals. (This is the difference, 2012 Fiesta does not require this action) 2. Turn the key to the accessory position for keyed vehicles and for push button start vehicles press the Start/Stop button once quickly. DO NOT attempt to start the engine. 3. Press the accelerator and brake pedals fully for 20 seconds. 4. ENGINE OIL CHANGE DUE NEXT SERVICE and will display. 5. Turn the vehicle off. The message and lights will be cleared. Doesn't work for me. In step 2, no matter how quickly I tap the start/stop button, the engine starts. Am I supposed to release the brake and accelerator after doing step one? If not, how do I keep the engine from starting in step 2? If I let go of the pedals after step 1, and work through the rest of the steps, I get nothing. I bought this as a "program car" with 29K miles on it and just changed the oil at 29.5K, as I wanted to be sure it had synthetic and the dealer couldn't tell me if it had been changed when they got it in or not. |

I just got my oil changed today and tried to reset it. No message appeared, or anything like that in my message center.
I wonder if this only works when the Change Oil light is actually on? I remember it working just fine when I did it last time (the oil light was on at that time) I guess I will find out pretty soon if the oil monitor was reset or not... I was about 500 miles from 10,000 from my last change.
