Default oil system reset (before the required interval)

I prefer full synthetic oil... with that being said at 1650 my fiesta just got a fresh oil change to valvoline 5w20 full synthetic...

Not that 1600 miles is enough to piss over but how to I reset the system to know I put new oil in it?

I read that you turn it to run (not starting) with the gas and brake pedals pressed and the oil can light will go out after 20 seconds...

well it never went out...

I just don't want it saying to ford that I've never done an oil change when the time comes as I plan on 4000 mile changes with full synthetic regardless of the 10K recommendation...

Ty in advance if anyone knows...

Here's what the Fiesta Owners Guide says:
Quote:
Oil life monitoring system reset
To reset the oil service light and clear the oil change message after
servicing use the following procedure:
1. With the ignition in the off position, press the brake and accelerator
pedals.
2. Turn the key to the accessory position for keyed vehicles and for push
button start vehicles press the Start/Stop button once quickly. DO NOT
attempt to start the engine.
3. Press the accelerator and brake pedals fully for 20 seconds.
4. ENGINE OIL CHANGE DUE NEXT SERVICE and will display.
5. Turn the vehicle off. The message and lights will be cleared.

yeqh I found the previous posts that show that... I followed it and don't think it reset... the oil light never went out as was mentioned...

I guess I'll ask my dealer or maybe just not worry about it and keep the old fashion sticker record

If the reminder message isn't showing due to having reached the time or miles driven interval, I don't think there is any light that will go out. If you've performed the procedure correctly you probably won't know until the light comes on after it's been a year or 10,000 additional miles. If you keep changing at 4,000 miles and continue to perform the light reset, you'll probably never see the light. And don't count on the light being reset along the way to prove to Ford that the oil was changed...keep the receipts!

Oh I do. That's part of the valvoline engine warranty, logging and keeping receipts.

Doubt I'll ever use it but anything goes wrong ever (300,000 miles worth of forever) with an oil lubricated part that causes engine damage or failure. Valvoline fixes the motor. love it! I use synthetic oil anyways and don't trust extended change intervals anyways. I'd rather spend the $35 and do it more often.

Dealer didn't reset the OLM after the 20K change so the light on Phantom came on. My son did the steps with me guiding him over the phone ... light reset just fine. Maybe you didn't hold the pedals long enough ... or hold them down far enough?

It always bothered me why the oil change reset has to be so convoluted. Why not just a two step button on the information display panel.

"New Oil Change" Yes / No
"Are You Sure?" Yes / No

I know somebody will say its to prevent the errant mistake of saying yes by mistake. If a person can't handle a two step instruction they should not have a license!

It may be that you have to wait for the light to come on, before you can reset it.
I found that I had to turn the key all the way to ON .

Congatulations 0n using full synthetic.
Go the full 10k, you won't have any problems, trust me.
Been doing it for years.

Yup - key does need to be in the ON position (do not start the engine). I'm kind of with Norm but I can see the pedal+key as being the same thing ... releases an interlock that normally would not release.

I've use full synthetic since 2003 when I had my svtf. I've put it in all my motors. I've never gone over 4000 miles regardless. To me changing it every 4000 miles is worth a 300,000 mile engine warranty from valvoline.

I Donno. I'm sure 10,000 mile intervals is fine (as long as a good filter is used or changed halfway through the 10000 miles. I'd never trust a regular Fram for 10k)
