Default Lug Nuts what socket size?

This may have been answered before but I can not find it.

Just about to install my winter tires and decided this year to get a torque wrench, my question is what size bit do I need?

I can get a set of sockets but they have two different version, which size is for the fiesta?

SAE version is for 3/4", 13/16", and 7/8"

or

Metric version is for 17mm, 19mm, 21mm

I haven't tried it but I believe all lug nuts on all cars are in metric since at least the past 10 years.

19 mm. 3/4 sockets will work, as 19mm and 3/4 are really close. The threads do NOT interchange.

Cool

19mm and 3/4" are so close that my Blue Point set of flip sockets uses the same socket for 19 and 3/4. Also Ford(with only a few exceptions) uses 19mm for all vehicles that are FWD and 21mm for all vehicles that are RWD, the exception being Explorers(I don't know about the newest Explorers but I assume they are 19mm) and Rangers as those are RWD and use 19mm lug nuts.

Use the 19mm especially if you're using an impact gun.

A 3/4 will fit and will work but because most lugnuts have stainless steel caps on them the loose fit of the 3/4 inch socket will damage the caps and eventually they'll fall off.

The 3/4" is only about .002 bigger than the 19mm.

I had an experience with my jeep with those caps.
Finaly bought a set with out the caps.
I haven't checked for sure but I believe the Fiesta does not have the caps.

Mine has caps. .002" might make a difference that can be hameful to caps. See lots of cars missing caps, so this might be the cause. Still haven't figured out the oil drain plug size. Perhaps my made in China wrench is a little out of spec.

Not sure about the Fiesta lugs as I don't have any in stock.

Trust me about using the 3/4 socket on 19mm capped nuts though, it's just a bad idea.
