Okay, I'm officially disgusted with Sync now. No matter how many times I turn off Shuffle, and I've used both voice and onscreen menu to do it, it plays tracks out of order.

When I leave the car and come back, it doesn't play where it left off. It plays a Burt Bacharach album...every time.

I didn't even know I had that, gross. But still. Why that album? It isn't the first album or artist alphabetically.

And voice recognition. There's no way I can figure out how to say "Cargo" so that Glados understands it.

Maybe I'll try a system update when I get the chance and see if that helps.

Play it manually then press the sync button and say "What's Playing" - then attempt to repeat the same pronunciation...

A car that's a easy listening fan.

Like I said in the original post, SYNC is pretty horrible, it's not as intuitive as they want it to be. Sometimes it really is just easier to just push a button.

I am pretty much done with Sync and I was really looking forward to it. Every time I connected my iphone or ipod, it would take 20 minutes to index. I am not even running the latest operating system on the iphone. Once sync'd I can never get the music I want, try getting Korpiklaani. I was spending so much time trying to find the music I wanted that sync was actually making it dangerous. I gave up and started listening to cds again. Why can't they just put a big hard drive in the dash to store your music on?

Ford does have that in some cars and believe me finding and loading music using SYNC is a whole lot easier and quicker. I can understand your frustration with SYNC but I wouldn't give up on it because once you learn how to use it and what it can do you will love it. I know this because when SYNC first came out and I had to learn to use it and learn to fix it I was cussing everytime I saw one come in with a problem. But after a short time of playing with it I realized that it actually is very useful and light years better than CD's,radio or even Sirius. I guess I say this because my music collection is very large (32000+ tracks) and I can play just about any artist I want just by saying a name.
I would suggest that you just sit in the car and play with it and if you have any questions that are not answered by the owners manual or syncmyride.com then just go to the dealership and ask your salesperson if they can help you out with anything you are having a problem with.
If the salesperson can't help you they can usually find someone there that can help you out.
If your phone or iPod is trying to index everytime you plug it in then I would suggest that you DO updated to the latest level because that may take can of your indexing concern.

I am still getting used to Sync, and it is just ok. I ask it to play an artist on my iPod, and it only plays 2 of their songs over and over again. The best luck I have had is to just plug the iPod in and let it play what it wants. For phone calling, it calls the wrong person about 50% of the time.

I was one of lucky 100 in chapter 1. I had the one with the full wrap that looked a bit reptilian and a bit grateful dead. After 40K miles in 7 months, I liked the car enough to spring for a new one even though I wasn't really in the market.

This morning I loaded a 2Gb stick with music and just put that in the USB. Worked great. I may just get a large flash stick and roll with that.

I have avoided upgrading my iPhone OS specifically because of issues cited on syncmyride. I have heard that Droids work well with sync, may be going that route in the spring.

My one major issue that won't change is that I like the option to browse my music, especially for the navigator. I have a full 80 Gb ipod and I probably only remember a 1/10 of what is on it.

I also use a flash drive, keep in mind that they are not designed for the constant read/write that goes on with sync (i don't think sync writes, so let's just say read).... The flash drive will eventually die on you, this will be slow - some songs will just stop playing over time, etc...

You can browse your music on the navigator - you have to go through the menu system to do so. I do this on my escape all the time when my wife is driving and afaik the fiesta hasn't lost any functionality, only gained. Anyway I can't find the sync supplement online, but to do so on the escape, I press menu til I hit Media Menu, then I press OK, then i scroll through until I find Play Menu, press OK, scroll around til I can select what to play...

EDIT: on page 79 of our 2nd printing manual... here's the directions for the fiesta:
1. Plug the device into the vehicle’s USB port.
2. Press AUX repeatedly until SYNC USB appears in the radio display.
3. Depending on how many digital media files are on your connected
device, Indexing may appear in the radio display until indexing is
complete. You will then be taken to the Play Menu. Press OK.
4. Press UP/DOWN to cycle through selections of: Play All, Albums,
Genres, Playlists, Tracks, Explore USB, Similar Music and Return.
5. When the desired Play Menu selection appears in the radio display,
press OK to build your desired music selection.
