malinche305, I would be very interested if you find a solution (either with Ford factory/Canbus/other?). Please keep us posted.

He said a complete re-wiring would be required to have the lock button only lock, and to have the unlock button only unlock.

Can anyone verify this? This is for the Fiesta S without the convenience package. I know some comments allude to all Fiestas having the same wiring, but what my installer said implies the wiring is different (and unfortunately much simpler).
I am mostly concerned about the keyless entry. The fact that both buttons perform the same functions does not bother me. I am just sick of putting my key in the door every time, and anytime i want to get in the trunk! I could do just fine without the alarm working at all and having everything else disconnected.

That being said,
If you happen to discover exactly what it was that needed to be done to get the alarm working correctly, i'd be forever grateful.. Definitely worth waiting on getting it done for that info

Default Looking for latest updates on car alarm install

Hey Folks,
I just bought a 2011 Ford Fiesta S model and I would like to install a car alarm with keyless entry. If anyone has any updates to their horror stories, I would appreciate hearing them. Also, I'm interested in having an aftermarket cruise control installed. Al and Ed's tells me that I can save $100 if I have both done at the same time, but after reading these stories, I'm worried that any problems would be more difficult to troubleshoot. Any words of experience would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael

@Michael714:
I just got a Viper 5601 installed yesterday. (By Paul's Electronics in Bensalem, PA). I did have to go back a few times as the alarm kept going off, and he had the alarm set so that either a) the car had to be hit or b) a window had to be broken. Well, it still went off. When I went back today he said that it was the dome light, and he put a relay in that makes a little "bzzzzzzz" when I lock or unlock the doors. He said it's a known Ford thing but he didn't need it on the other Fiestas he's done.
Not sure if that fixed it yet but if you want an update I'll let you know. I got the alarm + remote starter. All I really "needed" is the remote starter and with all the aggravation with the alarm it's a bit frustrating. The doors lock and unlock just fine, though.

UPDATE: The alarm still goes off with no reason to. One last shot before I just have them disable it: he thinks it's a bad module because he just did another Fiesta and a Focus and they were fine. Last chance! Hope it works.

I have a viper 5901 installed in my fiesta and have no problems at all with the system. I work at best buy and we used my car as a training session to take a look at the new fiesta before we started doing any dealer installs. The only strange thing we ran into was there is no common door trigger, so each door must be isolated with diodes. if your alarm is going off every 20-30 mins the door trigger is more than likely hooked up to the dome light, the bcm sends out a pulse around 20-30 mins to make sure everything is closed/off. this pulse will set off the alarm.

Since then I have had it removed and the dealer just installed a ford factory alarm. I am having problems with it because it seems to ignore any sensitivity. I can bang on the window very hard and it never chirps. I read the manual and it states I can adjust this setting by doing a bunch of steps then pressing the door unlock button to decrease, and door lock button to increase sensitivity... The worst thing about the Fiesta (IMO) is the fact is HAS no unlock and lock door buttons, just the center mounted lock toggle switch!!!

Does anyone know how to work around this with the factory alarm? The dealer seems to have no clue.

Just as an update in case anyone is using this thread as reference. The dealer eventually gave up and gave me a refund for the alarm and removed it. I lost well over 20 hours of my time dealing with this and they never could get it to work.

In summary and from what I have learned from reading this thread, the Fiesta is DIFFERENT than most cars with the alarm. If you want an alarm in your Fiesta, BE CERTAIN whoever you take it to has done a Fiesta alarm before. Many people have successfully installed alarms here so it is possibly, but in my case three different 'professional installers' couldn't figure it out.

I'm going to mention the diode thing to my guy, but he says he's put in more than a few Fiesta alarms and mine is the only one that just "goes off." He replaced the module and it still goes off on its own. If nothing else, I now have a "panic button" that I didn't have before, and of course, my beloved remote starter.
Thanks for all the info, guys.

I had a keyless entry system installed.

All doors work off lock or unlock. Didn't hook the horn or flashers up as I didnt want a false lock. I always check my doors after locking it.

I basically got it so I can lock the car after everyone is out and so I can lock after using the trunk.

Kinda sucks but works for what I need it for.

Was told there's is a "flash can" you can use but no clue what it is or how it works. Bestbuy tried selling me on at $100+ parts and $50+ programming. Wasn't worth it for what I wanted.

Unhappy

Hey so I have a 2011 ford fiesta SE hatchback with a viper 5704.. I believe its the newest one.. Has remote start as well.. Well occasionally my anti theft comes on and my car won't start, I have to press the unlock button several times to unlock it and there is a find from the relay every time the door opens and the light comes on.. This sucks cuz I was about to drop $2500 on an audio system and I can't now.. Most likely I'll just have then uninstall it and go to ford for theirs. I really like the viper alarm though "/ it has for distance for the remote start which is awesome here in Texas heat!!
