Lightbulb Adding more sound insulation/deading to Fiesta S

Hi guys,

It's my first post on the forums, but I've been lurking for some time now anyways, and I think its time for me to commit to a bigger project than what I've done before on my car.

I want a really quiet ride, and as you may know, the Fiesta S has less insulation than the higher trims. I need some help from you all to suggest some products from your own experience for me to use on this project. I'm on a budget, and new to this aspect of modding.

I'm going to do only the cabin, and I have no aftermarket audio equipment either. If I do it, I'll hope to detail me ripping out my interior and installing that stuff in either this thread or another as well!

EDIT: D'Oh, I meant "deadening" on thread title!

I think the only thing you're missing is the sound deadening blanket under the hood. I'd just try that first.

My car is extremely quiet. Didn't really notice a difference between the s sedan I purchased and the loaded hatchback I test drove.

If you want to put more sound deadening in. I recommend a product called fatmat. It's available on amazon and eBay for $120-140 for a 100sqft roll.

I used it on my 10 Nissan cube a couple years ago. Was awesome. (installed in on every metal surface in the cube and made it extremely quiet).

Uploaded with ImageShack.us This is the underside of the hood. Do the models above the S include a fire/sound deadening mat?

Also do they have a cover on the top of the motor? mine doesn't have a beauty cover or anything on top of the motor (I know some cars have em and some dont, my cube did and my fiance's rouge doesn't).

I don't about now and today's cars, but many years ago I added insulation to the underside of the hood of a car to help deaden the sound. It raised the operating temp of the engine to the point of near over heating. As soon as I removed it the temp went back to normal.

The S lacks the hood blanket, easily installed. There are no other diff's btw'n the cars in terms of sound deadening.

I find the Fiesta to be a smooth, quiet ride, I'm not sure that you can improve much on this.

I do admit, the Fiesta was much quieter than the Fit when I test drove both, but I was more thinking to bridge the gap between the relative quietness of the Fiesta with the the tomb-like silence of a Lexus. Would this possible then?

Just curious- what noise do you find objectionable? Simply- the three (primary) noise sources in a vehicle are powertrain, road, and wind. Different treatments would reduce different noises.
