Hi, I know there have been earlier threads on speaker noise, but I haven't seen this symptom described before. I get occasional speaker buzz on the front driver's side speaker. Sometimes the buzz is bad, sometimes it is not there at all. What is weird about it, though is recently I realized that it appears that the buzz is at a constant volume. In other words, at low volumes the buzz is very noticeable and distracting, but at higher volumes the buzz is almost undetectable because the music drowns it out. This seems odd to me if the buzz is mechanical in origin, and makes me wonder if the problem is electronic.
It only buzzes at certain frequencies, and is especially noticeable in the range of the speaking voice. If I set the fade control to 100% rear speaker I cannot hear it. Anyone have an idea what could be causing this, and anyone have similar experience? The dealer has offered to replace the speaker, but I am doubtful whether that will help because some days the speakers sound perfectly good. |

...'Buzz' = vibration, which is usually caused by a ripped or torn speaker. "Popping" = electrical issue, often a grounding problem. A 'Pop' really sounds electrical, there's no mistaking it, it's a static like sound the speaker itself makes.
If it's 'Buzzing', if it sounds like there's something on the speaker or in the speaker or otherwise physically messing with the speaker, then it's probably ripped or torn somewhere..you can tell b/c the noise is ON the speaker, not in it. When they replace the speaker, they will look at the connections (and resolder them), which should fix the problem if it was a lose wire or such. |

"Strong vibration" sounds like, well, strong vibration. Bass=increased vibration caused by low frequency, and if you add volume, you get vibration. When you take the door off, make sure the speakers are battened down, and consider adding some sound deadening stuff behind the speaker, which should eliminate your problem.

I went through the same exercise last year with the front right speaker. Everything mentioned and described in this thread is exactly what I experienced. I continue to have a buzzing and mostly crackly sound on low frequencies. Here's what my dealer did:
- Removed door panel and checked for anything loose. - Trimmed any plastic from the speaker opening. - Checked speaker for proper operation. - Added additional baffling When they couldn't find the cause, they ended up replacing the speaker which corrected the problem - until recently because the same problem is back. The speaker is good and the problem is somewhere in the door. Very frustrating indeed.

Good to know, I am now having the same problem with the aftermarket system I had installed.

Oh yea I forgot, my dealer did this too. I did look inside the door when the dealer had the inside panel off. The wiring harnesses inside the doors are really stiff and I found it hard to believe that they would be the source. There's got be something else that is vibrating at lower frequencies.

Just to follow up on my original post, I did have the dealer replace the speaker. So far so good, but I am keeping my fingers crossed because I don't really believe it was the speaker (because some days it sounded perfectly fine). The dealer let me look at the door and panel when it was disassembled, and I couldn't seen anything obviously loose.
Now, if they can just fix the problem where Sync suddenly decides it doesn't like my playlists even tho it worked fine before... |
