Okay. After much thought. I'm not messing with my car audio yet.
I called metra the manufacturer of the only single din kit on the market. They have no current plans but do take market requests. I want a double din after market in my fiesta. They simply have more, better options without having to add adapter after adapter. Can anyone who has even considered a double din, heck any after market radio for that matter. Please call metra and ask for a double din bezel for our car. (386) 257-1186 Ask for tech support and help me convince them to make one.

I did send an email through the contact info on the website. Without knowing the details, it seems like they could fabricate a panel for the top screen to give a little more clearance for a double din, similar to the European models. Lets hope!

I feel like there's room for a double din even it it sat at a weird angle. I like build in nav and single din nav screens just don't cut it.

Well, I never received a response back. Wasn't really expecting one. Seems like we're on our own. I wish I had the skills to fabricate like in one of the old threads here: Tired of waiting on a dash kit. Building my own.. Problem is, I have the buttons for the seat warmers, so I wouldn't be able to relocate the controls like he did.
One thought was to combine the metra kit with the double din european version I linked to above. Use the modified top screen bezel from the Euro kit, and cut the Metra bezel to allow for double din, and keep factory screen layout controls with the Metra Kit. The pluses are, if it worked, there wouldn't be too much fabrication needed. The negatives are that the Euro din kits cost at least $200 not including shipping. Plus the cost of the Metra kit, your now around $350 just for a complete bezel, not including a head unit. At that price, I'm considering checking out the Chinese units on AliExpress. They appear to be plug and play, with a lot more features that most head units for sale here. Of course we know the negatives... no support, vague documentation, etc. Any other solutions I'm not thinking of? Last edited by Vort; 02-20-2012 at 12:51 PM. |

As for the Metra set up... Seriously lame they insist only on a single din adapter. How lame is that, really! Never knew of the thread you posted... I am willing to do that Never thought of relocating the car info controls down south... Hrm... maybe the planning and design phase needs to begin...

Good luck! I'm afraid after cutting and all my bezel would look like a piece of molten plastic! Plus I still have the problem of the heated seat buttons, which take up the room that would be need to relocate the controls.
That's a nice unit. My goal is to find something that's compatible with an android mimic Android Ultimate In-Car OEM System - Remote Bluetooth Touch, HDMI Mirroring, since I used my android for just about everything (music, navigation, etc). There's no way I know of to modify those single DIN foldout screens, so the solution would have to be double din, or the Chinese OEM receivers. Decisions...decisions... Please post your progress if you decide to move forward. |

I was planning to do the new Kenwood interface w/ SYNC Kenwood Announces Ford Sync Alternative | ceoutlook.com . Just wonering if you can eliminate the factory sreen and then someone needs to make a double din adaptor.

Yeah but how do you control the actors display? You didn't appear to relocate the buttons.
I will be making one in the next few months I think. Depends how this semester goes on how long it'll take.
