Would you say the Galaxy S works better than the iPhone?

And sprint does charge extra for the 4G, which is what I am trying to avoid only because I never use 4G. But it's not a big deal if I need to continue to use a phone that has 4G. And if you say the Galaxy is the best phone sprint offers for Sync then that's the one I will buy.

I'd go with the iPhone for the fact that there's no way they'd drop support for it. If they ever released an update to SYNC that broke iphone support they'd have to fix it due to the massive backlash from users. With a Galaxy that may not be the case.

i've never had an iphone, so i couldn't compare. i have the samsung GSII skyrocket at the moment, which is similar to the epic on sprint. i can tell you that sync works just fine, bluetooth connects with no issues, and i can use pandora through the mobile apps with no issues either. i had the GSI and the new versions are HUGE improvements over the last edition (hubby and i both had captivates, he now has the GSII and i have the skyrocket version, both are greatly improved).

iphones are good phones, and you really can't go wrong with it if it's what you're looking for. from what i understand it pretty much has to be plugged into the usb to use a lot of features, which is both good and bad. it's good since it gives you a charge while you're driving (which is never a bad thing!) but to me kind of annoying as i don't want to pull my phone out of my bag every time i get into the car (SIL has the iphone 4S and this is what she does - i'm not 100% that it's completely necessary though, someone with an iphone with direct knowledge please chime in!)

both really are good phones, and will work just fine with sync. it's more about what you are looking for out of a phone and which one you like better. i would suggest going to a store and playing with both and seeing which one better suits your needs.

Appleinfl does make a valid point though, iPhones will not be going anywhere where as other phones might. With that being said though, it doesn't mean that you won't have to wait for newer iPhones like the iPhone 5 to come out before it works best with Sync.

And I does seem annoying that you need to use the USB port--which may be a problem.

What if I want to listen to my iPod and have the functions of my iPhone linked up with Sync for calls. Or is there a way to play music on the Iphone and use all the functions?

So it probably will really come down to that. I do not use my phone for any other function than Facebook and Google Maps.

sure you can stream music from an iphone while still being able to get phone calls. you can do that on any phone. i believe to get metadata however it must be plugged in.

i'm not sure what you mean by the iphone not going anywhere while others might. the iphone has a new edition year after year, just like every other phone on the market. an iphone4 is just as old as a captivate. i'm really not sure what your point is on that one. it's not like you're keeping it for 10 years. andorid, blackberry, winmobile, and ios will continue to be supported by ford/microsoft in the future.

get what phone works for you and your needs at this point in time, not what you think will happen in 10 years (if you believe the predictions winmobile will be outselling ios is a few years!). look at all your options and see which you like. it's pointless for us to sit here and argue over what's better, as no on here other than you knows your needs and preferences. either an android or ios will work just fine, it's all about what you're looking for.

I have an iPhone 4S so I can answer any iPhone related questions.

You don't have to plug it in to use it. You can play music or pandora or really anything through the bluetooth, you just don't get the metadata or voice control through sync.

What I meant about the iPhone is that each model has a huge user base. They even still sell the 3 year old 3GS. While the iPhone 4 may be as old as the Captivate, there's a lot more iPhone 4 users out there and will be there for a long time. I'm not saying they'd drop support for one. I'm just saying I could easily see them releasing an update that might break support for some devices.

There is no argument coming from me, just looking at options.

Okay, so from my understanding the only thing you can do is play music via bluetooth on the iPhone 4S.
The only way to get Sync commands is via plugging it into the USB port. Which then takes away the option for me to plug in my iPod to listen to music.

I assume Ford Sync does support iPhone 4S enough to see it as both an iPod and a Phone?

Is there any reason why you don't want to put your music from your iPod to an iPhone? That'd be one option so you can consolidate devices. If you already have Apple products, it seems to be the logical choice unless you really want texting to work with your car.

In terms of MAP and being able to text, just realize that whole feature is limited based on the speed you're travelling. At any speed, you can receive messages and SYNC will read it out to you (if you want). If you're moving, the system will NOT allow you to compose a text message. If you are stopped, the system will allow you to compose a text message, but they are canned messages limited to common phrases designed to tell people that you can't talk now, or be there in x minutes, or yes/no.

Jaclyn is correct in that Apple currently isn't adopting the MAP standard. HTC, RIM, Samsung and LG are the only manufacturers using that standard. It will have to also depend on the phone you're looking at to see whether that particular OS in your device has the MAP standard built into it. Ford SYNC owners aren't alone. Folks owning BMW's can't use their Office function with an iPhone.

If I am able to play music through the iPone, receive calls and make calls through the ford Sync. Then that would be good enough. I do not need the text feature at all.

All I am looking for is the integrated phonebook with the ability to make voice commands to make calls. And if I am listening to music in my iPhone--I would like to still be able to receive phone calls.

So if the iPhone can do all that, then that's what I will buy.
