Hey all,
I have a 2011 SES; Just recently my SYNC stopped detecting my USB port. Everything else on my SYNC works fine but no matter what I plug into the port, it won't detect it nor play it. It just started doing this yesterday, the day before that it was working perfectly. My parents drove it before hand, switched it from Auxiliary to Radio and when I went to play my USB afterwards it said USB isn't detected. I've put my USB into my computer and it loads up fine and plays all the music efficiently. Nothing was spilled on either port nor USB, and both of them are clean and look normal (to me atleast.) Anyone else had this problem and found any fixes? I can't stand listening to the radio.

That's what you get for letting your parents drive your car.
![]() Seriously, it could be a bad connention. Have you tried any other USB type item such a light? Just to see if connection is being made. You might try pulling the appropriate fuse than re-installing it. Just guesses.

Thanks all for the feedback, I'm going to go grab my old USB with a light and see if it's getting a connection. I'm not too car technical savvy so I'll save disconnecting the battery and pulling fuses when I become desperate. Hopefully it just goes back to normal like mk7's. |

Did your parents try plugging anything into the USB port?
I'd try a master reset as well.

Like eRic and GapBoyPCS said, I definitely recommend performing a Master Reset. Here are the step to get started: Note: To scroll, use the seek arrows. 1. Press PHONE to enter the Phone Menu. 2. Scroll until System Settings is selected and press OK. 3. Scroll until Advanced is selected and press OK. 4. Scroll until Master Reset is selected and press OK. 5. Press OK to confirm when prompted. The display will confirm when the reset is complete. SYNC will take you back to the Advanced menu. Let me know if this works or if you have any additional questions! Jaclyn

So I jumped into my Fiesta yesterday, and on the way to work I decided to try to play my USB for the hell of it. From my surprise, it worked. Sadly when I was getting ready to drive back home a few hours later, the USB commands were acting funny and repeating themselves after confirming understanding a command, but eventually agreed to play my USB. I'm going to try the Master Reset even though it's started working again. Thank you all for the advice, and special thanks to Jaclyn for the steps. I'm going to go try it out right now.

Something else to try is blowing some canned air into the usb port.
The angle the port is mounted at makes it very susceptible to dust, dirt, and everything else trapped in your car. Intermittent contact on one of the USB pins or a short between two pins can cause the Sync computer to begin ignoring the malfunctioning port. |
