Default Use for the tiny shelf behind the gear shift?

I am trying to find a good use for that tiny embedded shelf behind the gear shift. It looks like where an ashtray would go. I do not want an ashtray, but would love to use that for storage somehow or at least something fun and creative. Any aftermarket or other ideas?

I have the Ford armrest that my dealer installed as a courtesy for the long delivery wait. The armrest covers half of the rear cup-holder but I found the remaining portion to be a perfect fit for my cell phone, wallet and mileage log book.

I think he meant in front of the gear shifter. That little shelf below the HVAC controls.

That little cubbyhole has to be the most useless feature on the car (that might be a good thread to start ). It's not deep enough to hold much, the angle is too shallow, and if you stomp on the gas, the cubbyhole contents are liable to come spilling out. I tried putting my cell phone there and it ended up on the floor. Luckily, it fell to the passenger side so I didn't have to try to fish it out from under the gas pedal while driving...

I find it to be a highly ignorable cubby, cause it's totally useless(unless you use it for a wallet holder of course!)
