Default Steering Wheel swap

Greetings,

I was thinking about buying a steering wheel with the controls on them from a junked Fiesta off eBay and was wondering how difficult it would be to hook everything up (minus sync)\ has anyone else done this yet?

Thanks

There may be a lot more than you think.

I would suggest the complete column as the wiring and clock spring will be different.
Don't forget the wheel module under the dash and any extra wiring that it needs.

I think it will be very involved to swap out steering wheels and get everything to work. Just trying to disconnect and reconnect the airbag is a hassle. If you get the process wrong, the fuse blows and they are ungodly expensive to replace. I thought I followed the shop manual perfectly when doing this to my ZX3 when I swapped out wheels, and I blew the airbag fuse. It was hundreds of dollars for the body shop to fix the issue. So, you will have that to deal with, plus all the issues with connecting the steering wheel buttons. I give it a 5% chance of working. Harnesses and modules will all be different and were probably never designed to work together. A Sync-less radio wasn't intended to be used with a Sync steering wheel, so I doubt you will be able to get them to interface. A better option would be to get the wheel, and the entire Sync system.

Cool

No matter what you do if you are swapping modules you will have to take it to a dealer to get them to hook their computer to the car and introduce all of the modules to each other so they will communicate. Like was stated above you still probably won't be able to use the buttons because the radios are different and weren't designed for that application.

doing that way gets rid of the airbag issues, which is a big plus!

Where did you get the steering trim with controls? Dealer or eBay?

How many wires did you have to route from the back of the trim\buttons through the steering wheel? idc about the sync stuff, cause i'll never get it, but would LOVE the other half of the setup to work

VERY excited to see what you post! Thanks

I bought a complete steering from ebay. It came with the buttons, trim and wires, and all they fit perfect to my steering. I just had to remove some rubber to have enough room for the buttons. Actually i have the steering radio controls working perfect with the alpine iva-w505 and controlled by an aswc axxess inteface.
