I looked at the parts diagram for the 21012 seat frame and the armrest is attached via a bracket that bolts to the frame which has a post that the rest itself pivots on.
Since I have a Ford armrest waiting to be installed, I think I am going to pull the seat cover and see what's involved in removing the bracket but my car is still probably eight weeks away from delivery.

Since my car has arrived and I have a '11 spec drivers seat cover, I took soe time today to try and remove the armrest.
