That's not a bad price even at $23.

I intentionally omitted the part number. Although I do have access to the parts catalog, I much prefer having the dealer look it up to eliminate any possibility of a mistake on my end that may cause someone to order/buy the wrong part.

Parts departments don't always get it right. Telero ordered the sedan spoiler from Ford recently. They quoted him a $400 piece, but he was able to find what he needed for $180ish on the accessories.ford.com site. They wanted to give him a whole trunk lid when he just needed the spoiler. This wasn't a ploy to make money by them, just ignorance of the parts available since it was obscure. No reason not to believe in the information on the screen.

No, but they're only human and the parts catalogs are very complex and aren't always completely clear.

But if you ask for a specific part number (instead of having the dealer look it up for you) you may end up owning the part even if it's not what you need. However if the dealer looks it up and gives you the wrong part, you have a very good chance of being able to return it.

True enough. It has been my experience that they will fight you on the return if they "confirmed it" with you before order. It really just depends on the person you're dealing with. I like finding it myself and verifying it's right with the parts guys before buying. I can see the logic in not saying anything if you're not confident in the suggestion. This is a forum though and everything should be taken with a grain of salt.

I like to get the part number I think is right, then have the dealer look up what they think I need. If it matches there's a pretty good chance it's right. If it doesn't you can bring up both parts to compare.
