An '04 Malibu would be what you purchase when you don't really care about driving enjoyment or looks. If you want a blahmobile to get from A to B fairly reliably with some room to haul stuff, it's a great choice.

She asked an opinion of a pretty boring vehicle. I've driven a 2005 Malibu Maxx LTZ fully loaded, and even that wasn't very exciting. It's not a horrible vehicle by any means. It's just not what I'd consider sexy or any way, shape or form an engaging driver's car.

Reminds me of the story my wife tells of purchasing her first car. It was an early '60's Chevelle (a rust gold). She had seen a black Mustang and fell in love with it. Her dad said no. It was too sporty and most probably had a bad transmission due to do some "hot rod" kid abusing it. So with his "advise" (read demand) she bought the car. A few months later it needed a new transmission. The 'tang was seen a few times looking good. About a year later I met her and we got married. I was driving that piece of sh*t when all of a sudden I see smoke coming from the hood. I get out and hear hissing noise and thought that the car was going to blow up. It didn't. One of the battery cables caught fire.
As I thumbed my way home a hot chick offers me a ride. She hinted to me that perhaps she could provide a little more than a ride! I was so scared (and still in much lust with my wife) that I couldn't wait to get out of her car. I never told my wife about the hitched ride.
